Tomorrow is a big day for Nikon — they will officially release new line of mirrorless cameras with a new Z-mount…
Japanese site Nokishita Camera has a reputation of the “official rumours and leaks” treasurie. And they did it again: day before the official announcement, they have presented Nikon’s long-teased FF mirrorles models. Yes, models, because there are two of them: Z6 and Z7.
Source: Nikon Rumors
Nikon Rumours has reported specifications of both models and first three FF lenses with the Nikon Z-to-F lens adapter. Lenses will be:
- Nikon Z-Nikkor 24-70mm f/4 kit lens
- Nikon Z-Nikkor 35mm f/1.8
- Nikon Z-Nikkor 50mm f/1.8
(See at Nokishita)
Last year Nikon patented two new FF lenses: Nikkor 52mm f/0.9 and 36mm f/1.2 full frame mirrorless lenses, but we will still have to wait for those.
New Z-bodies have similar form factor as Sony A7 series, and are significantly smaller and lighter comparing to Nikon’s top DSLR, D850…
Now let’s see some specifications compared to D850:
We are yet to see battery life, and brace yourselves for the price announcement!
And of course, the news would not be complete without the main competitor: Nokishita reports Canon will also announce TWO Full Frame cameras very soon! At Mirrorles Rumors you will find this pic:
I have to say this doesn’t look authentic to me, but if it is authentic, then we could safely conclude that Canon got the message from Fujifilm and designed it in the retro style that very much reminds on their most successful film model — Canon AE-1.
Looking forward to Photokina this year!

Bogami, ovo deluje zanimljivo. Nisam siguran, koliko ja znam, Canon nema mirrorless fotoaparat koji ima IS, ispravi me ako grešim. :D
Колико ми је познато, досад нису имали физички ИС ни у једном телу са изменљивим објективима, @miroslavrc. Видећемо како ће одговорити на овај изазов :)
Očekujem bolji odgovor od Canona. :D
Whats your thoughts on the Sony A6300 and A6500. or are you a Nikon fan exclusively. Just wondered
I was a Nikon fanatic while I was young, @michaeljn. I always wanted to have Nikon F2 AS, but it was out of reach. My good father got me a wonderful Nikon FE which I still have. With the DSLR I’ve started with Canon, because it was cheaper than Nikon at the time — both, bodies and lenses. Sony has good cameras, but I have chosen Fujifilm — by far the best handling and design, and brilliant optics. That’s how cameras should be make.
Thanks for response, much appreciated, enjoy your camera. I cant wait to get mine(still saving) - hoping to get the Sony A6500, after much research it seems to be the one that best suites my needs. (guess it is really a personal bespoke thing)
Moving from Canon to that one.
Happy snapping.
Thank you @michaeljn, and enjoy whatever you get :)
Here are the prices, @michaeljn, so you can decide before you shell out for Sony:

Just realised the Nikon is way out of my price range :-) lol will have to stick to Sony, as it is probably best one in the $1200 - $1500 price range I can afford.
Oh, no, @michaeljn, in that price range you have professional grade Fujifilm X-T2, which is easily better than any APS-C Sony:

Ok, so you saying that the Fujifilm X-T2 is better than the Sony A6500. Have not looked at the fuji. Will check it out :-) thanks again, apologies for this back and forth chatter,
check this comparison :-) to Sony A6300 (price is a bit of a stickler for me) :-) sony $200 cheaper.

Thank you :-) for your input, much appreciated.
oah had a look and the price for Sony is much cheaper. just wonder how the 2 compare: Nikon Z76/7 vs Sony A6300/A6500 dpont think those 2 are in the same class, though?
will have to do some more research on comparisons between those 2 options :-)
