Sunrise or arunika is an event in which the uppermost side of the Sun appears above the horizon to the east. The rising sun is not the same as the dawn, where the sky begins to light, some time before the Sun appears, ending twilight.

The sunset is the time when the sun disappears below the horizon line to the west.
