Hangar One is located at the historic Naval Air Base at Moffett Field. The airfield and hangar are now owned by NASA, who took control of the area from the Navy in 1994.
The hangar was originally built to house the Naval airship USS Macon, which crashed off the coast by Monterey Bay in February 1935. Hangar One is one of the world’s largest freestanding structures, measuring 345m long by 94m wide by 60m high at its peak. It once enclosed 1 million cubic metres of usable space.
In 2014, the airfield was leased for 60 years to Planetary Ventures, a subsidiary of Google, who will protect and restore Hangar One as a historic property, with refurbishment expected to be completed in 2025.
Wow...what an amazing structure.

Hi - thank you! I found it when I was scanning through the Australia / New Zealand discord server - looking at what had been posted for interesting things to read. I'm new to Steem so haven't yet quite worked out how to find interesting content but that really jumped out. Any tips welcome!
