2022 starts and DSLR cameras die?

Hello, hello. Hope you're doing great! But have you heard the news?

So, no a year in 2022 had passed when we got this earth shattering news. The Dslr’s are officially dead…

Well, this is the type of articles we read all the time. This is dead, email e dead, everything is always dead… And we want to seem so modern that we are attracted to such headlines.

However, this time is quite serious.

Canon is not making dslr cameras… What??? (And by the way, I know cameras are not alive... please.)

This does not mean they are dead. I have one and I count on using it very much still. Many works and videos and photos and movies. So they are not dead.

But… If they stop producing them, they will also stop producing the accessories, including lenses… Meaning used market will go up… used items will become more expensive and some things are not just as good to buy second hand, like batteries.

Plus, things in general, are getting more expensive, because of all this shortages we keep hearing about. Of materials, manufacturing, workers , problems delivering… If on top of that things are not being made…

I wasn’t thinking on buying camera stuff, this year (or soon) but this does change it. At least one more battery and a great lense. Hope they keep it up, for a while. And then, if I want to get a new camera… I’ll have the issue with things not being compatible.

There will be no more innovation for them…

The reason, is a bit hard to understand…

Canon… Canon… Don+t get me wrong. I love my canon and what I can do, because of that little machine. But Canon...

Dslr are the flagship…

And it’s like they are updating things no one cares about. Even if they say, they are in competition with smartphones and still the updates are all, somewhat irrelevant. specially when considering that competition.

But and all, they are still not dead. But this time, the inflicted wound is very real. And it will change the landscape a bit in medium term.

Gonna look at price of batteries right now heheheh

Have a great day!

If you want more info on the technicalities here is a video, I liked. And I happen to agree with a lo of it. THIS IS NOT MY ORIGINAL WORK.

Sort:

Smartphones can't replace DSLRs. It seems that mirrorless designs can though.

Crazy, I'm having a hard time understanding the move to be honest. But yeah, kinda funny all the talk of the Iphone replacing it and in the end it was mirrorless heheheh

Whether or not prices go up and/or down depends on several factors. Economies are not or don't have to be influenced within a vacuum in other words. My advice to people is towards decentralized open-source solutions regarding hardware, software, etc.

Larger companies can stop making cameras, camcorders, lens, accessories, batteries, etc. However, at the same time, smaller companies can make adapters and a variety of things which can be compatible to cameras. Prices don't have to be fixed. However, prices are influenced by the centralization of the dollar, the not-federalized not-centralized not-reserve system of central banks. Super mega hyperinflation is and has been in effect due to globalism, lockdown, global tyranny, a wide variety of moving parts.

People can buy and sell parts. People can try to make their own things and step away from relying too much on the control and monopoly of corporatism, cronyism, etc. I agree with your point regarding the used market. But my point would be that it doesn't have to be limited to used items. We can do a lot more than just play in the sandbox made by others.

Yeah, let's hope some small non centralised company shows up and does all that.

The beauty of the free market.
