Today, I took a trip to the garden behind my apartment and look what I found.
Dacryodes edulis (Africans pear) is an evergreen tree that can grow up to a height of 18–40 meters in a forest but doesn't exceed a growth of 12 meters in plantations. It has a short trunk and a large crown. Its bark is pale gray and usually rough with droplets of resin. The leaves are a compound with not more than 5-8 pairs of leaflets. The upper surface of the leaves is glossy. The flowers are yellow and close to 5 mm across. The bluish purple fruit is a drupe which varies in length from 4 to 12 cm. It is mostly found in Southeastern part of Nigeria,West Africa. Popularly call "Ube" usually consumed with roasted or cooked corn.
