These wasps are real enough, but they also give you some idea of the sort of thing I get to see when I have a high fever.

These aren't aggressive and they can't sting like regular wasps, but they are parasitic in a way as they deposit eggs next to other insects' larvae that then get eaten. Not very nice.
Its like they are showing off who has long thingie :p
Note that only the females of these species have the thingie you mention.
And I thought it's the boys that show off...
