Devils Tower, Wyoming

in #photography6 years ago

Devils Tower is easily one of the most striking National Monuments. In the midst of prairie, as far as the eye can see, it soars to nearly 900 feet.
We could see it coming half an hour before we arrived, surrounded by nothing but dry grass and clear blue sky.

The bison and cows weren't impressed, they see this sight every day.

We hiked the Tower Trail 1.3 miles around the base of the Tower through trees that were somehow both tall and scrubby.

When you hold them the right way, you can spot climbers on nearly every face of the Tower.

Fun fact: the Monument was meant to be named "Devil's Tower", but someone accidentally dropped the apostrophe during paperwork and it has been "Devils Tower" ever since.

If you ever find yourself in the North Eastern corner of Wyoming, this place is well worth a visit.

Sort:

Hey, I remember that place! That was the first place we stopped on our out west trip, with Aaron and Joshua. It's a weird random place, but pretty sweet. Glad to see you finally posting again, ya hoser!

I've seen this formation in several conspiracy theory type documentaries 😂
I wish to visit one day. The world is full of wanders!

Ooh, what are the conspiracies about?

There's one saying what we know as mountains now were trees, cut down by 'them'. Nobody knows who "them" is - illuminati, Aliens, Tri-lateral world commission or whatever, God knows :)

This devil's tower thing was one of the 'cut down trees' presented in the documentary, because it does look like the stalk of a giant tree.

Ooh. You know, to be honest, I was hoping for something a little more realistic and with a good premise.. But hey, I guess I haven't done my research haha.
