Emerald toucanet (Aulacorhynchus prasinus) Costa Rica. ENG/SPA

_MG_8964.jpg
This is a species of which I had already shared some images in the past, fortunately on my last visit to the region of San Gerardo de Dota, in Costa Rica, I was able to observe and photograph it again.

_MG_8841.jpg

Early one morning we went out in search of quetzals, which although they are common in these areas, are not so easy to see within the dense oak forest that covers this natural paradise. We waited quietly near some bird feeders where quetzals are usually seen, however, after just over an hour of waiting, we were surprised by the arrival of an equally spectacular bird, the Emerald toucanet (Aulacorhynchus prasinus).

_MG_8862.jpg

The Emerald toucanet has intense bright green colors and a long beak adorned with a yellow stripe. Its size ranges between 30 and 35 centimeters and the differences between males and females are almost imperceptible. In Costa Rica they can be seen in elevated areas with humid forest. They move in small groups of 5 to 7 individuals, mainly in search of trees with fruit. During the breeding season they often use old woodpecker nests or natural cavities. During courtship, males have been observed offering fruit to the female. Every time the female accepted fruit from a male, the encounter ended in copulation.

Very beautiful and colourful bird

Agradezco mucho tus palabras.

Wow! Very beautiful little bird with very strong beak!
I could never take photos of birds in my garden. They sing strange songs in the morning. One poor guy has been singing almost a month but he couldn’t find his mate yet!
I need binoculars to see these birds among thick leaves! Found several empty nests being blown off the branches after a windy storm. How come I could never see them?! Sat and waited for over an hour! No chance of spotting these birds.

your shot is very beautiful. my head immediately thought "this can be sold to stock photos" 😆

I really liked this post
And above all because it shows how nature is conserved.

Your photography is amazing. The colors are so beautiful and the quetzals are so majestic. I love how you captured them in their natural habitat. The lighting is perfect and the composition is just right. Every time I look at your photos, I'm just amazed.

Interesting way of courtship, the bird looks really adorable too, thank you so much for sharing 🐦😍

All your photos are no doubt, must be great boss.
Honestly I feel bored posting only bugs and my daily life. I once wished I could post remotely. I hope once the nest will reach 3 dollars and I will sell it for a good camera. But you know yourself the price of hives is getting lower. Sorry if all my pictures are very boring. I'm also tired of hoping hives will arrive at a high price.

These picture are so nice!
How hard is to get close to these birds? Do you use a huge focal lens to make them "seeming" so close?

this bird picture some is very sharp, nice colour .. great DOF.

Gracias por su apoyo. Sigue adelante

Gracias amigo por visitar mi sitio. Saludos
