Sip and Shop

The Christmas season is getting on, and I am way behind telling you all the events we have been up to. So much to tell.

Today we are going way back to December 2nd and our trip over to North Vancouver Shipyard's shopping district for its seasonal Sip and Shop event.

Minime and I had a lovely time getting a head start on our Christmas shopping and partaking in what was a kind of scavenger hunt, as we wondered the unfamiliar streets of lower Lonsdale in search of the participating shops.

There were a handful of business advertised as taking part, but then offering nothing when the shopper arrived. However most of the business generously rose to the occasion and offered the food and drink as promised, in addition to beautiful decor and wonderful shopping experience. Of course, we were more likely to purchase at those business that had the goodies as promised and contributed to a experience to remember.

Most shops offered charcuterie, baked goods, and drinks, alcoholic and none. Even a famished gourmand needed to pace herself. For drinks, there were red, white, bubbles, mulled wine and egg nog. For goodies, there were cookies, cupcakes, and meringue. Even some amazing chicken souvlaki at one location.

Hopefully over the next week or two, I will have an opportunity to share more on the shops, Today we are going to take a look at the Artisan Collection, located at 121 1st St E, Lolo Lane. The store front is a little tucked away, so don't be afraid to tread the alley. You will find a gorgeous façade and parking. A secret fairyland of sorts.

The proprietor was a welcoming woman and her shop is just deliriously beautiful.

You won't find much in the way of mass-produced items but a plethora of hand-crafted objet d'arts, one of a kind artisanal kitchenware, candles, and bathroom toiletries.

Artisan Collection also offered some beautiful and unique tree ornaments and other seasonal decor items.

Minime and I decided on some heavenly smelling, hand-made soap. Not sure yet if they will be gifted or I will enjoy them myself. Decision. Decision.

Career Exploration

One of the advantages of having access to a provincial homeschooling program is the offered planning for subjects a parent might not think to cover with their child.

One of these subjects is Careers Education. The Work BC website offers a large resource of videos to help the average teen explore different career paths.

Minime finds himself drawn to carpentry. Below you will find his thoughts.

From our studies ...

I would like to explore carpentry as a possible future career. However I am not interested in becoming a builder. I want to do artisanal carpentry, more like wood-working and furniture making. With wood-working you get to see the physical results and you can be creative.

My Uncle works with wood and will help me. Wood- working uses a lot of tools. Tools are expensive, and you need a lot of space to store and use them. You also need to wear proper safety equipment and follow the safety precautions.
