Photography with UV paint, blacklight and kaleidoscope lens

I am a gadget nerd. Now that I started photography school, I am getting the sense that I love adding those gadgets and science into photography. We received a "light" themed assignment. I started brainstorming my personal associations with light. It went from feathers to religion. But the strongest feelings I had with the physics of light. Thinking about rainbows, prisms, and infrared.

I am also a bit of a shopping addict. I saw photos in a book with very bright-colored drinks. One and one made two... I ordered a whole bunch of UV reactive stuff like paint and powder. I found some very cool bulb-shaped bottles. I got myself a usb-blacklight and on top of that, ordered a kaleidoscope lens just for the craic.

I set up my tiny photo studio and started mixing very toxic-looking fluids for inside the bulbs. The police better not wanna investigate what is going on inside my house right now. There are suspicious powders all over the place. Their forensic blacklight will show so many spots in my house they will suspect foul play for sure!

Anyway... I started shooting. With the blacklight, after shutting down the blacklight. From the front, from the top, with kaleidoscope lens and without.

And now I am confused... I don't have a favorite! I can only pick one for school. Help!!

Ooooh, this is lovely. I really like the repeated curving form and colour in this one.

Ah, thanks for the reply... I noticed that the layout got messed up and some photos disappeared :)

The colors in all photos are all natural. If it's purple/blueish it's from the blacklight. The others are from the orange colored UV powder.

I see what you mean. I can see all the photos now, thanks! Love them. Very cool with the UV powder and also blacklight.

What's a kaleidoscope lens like to use? I've never heard of that.

I have to correct myself... it's just a filter you screw onto the lens. It just gives a very interesting effect.

Okay, I get you, that must be a lot of fun to play with.😄

Oh wow, thanks for posting a photo of the filter! Now I can see it and it looks very, very fun. 😄

what is the light you used? i have old uv neon lights but the power of them is not so great.

not sure will i be of help i like the middle one or the first one in the post. maybe because of the background and overall color.

so now you will not be able to say "i am not a photographer" :)

I got this one: https://www.amazon.nl/gp/product/B08MYJ2NNP
I don't need a whole lot of light. My mini studio is small enough. Key is that the paint reacts properly, I think. I plugged my lamp into a usb-battery so that I can carry it around easily and test a lot of stuff in the house.

And I can still say that I am not a photographer! At least until I graduate, right? :P

well until you get that paper :D

could be that my paint is not in the best shape either. i have it for 4 years now.

Yay, getting to see your assignments. The first one is cool, can't quite figure out how you did it. Not that I need to know. I also like the second one with the rings.

I can tell you, but then I'll have to kill you ;)
