📷 Autumn at the Winery

in #photography4 years ago (edited)

Autumn is a beautiful time of the year. Calmer and more relaxed than summer, the air gets a little cooler, but everything around us is unusually bright and lively thanks to the autumn colors. The autumn I'm talking about today happened in May last year in South Africa. Traveling around the country, we stopped for a tasting in the DeMorgenzon winery, located in a picturesque valley near the town of Stellenbosch, in one of the most famous wine regions of South Africa.

Initially, DeMorgenson was part of one of the oldest farms in South Africa, Uiterwyk, and in 2003 it was bought by the Appelbaum family and became a vineyard. The winery is located at a distance of about 30 kilometers from Cape Town, it is good — almost all tourists who come to Africa, at least for a short time will come to this city, and from there you can travel around the region for a couple of days, stopping by the wineries for tastings and admiring the vineyards. It is best not to be a driver at than moment, of course — well, you understand :)

This year, as I read, in South Africa a couple of times a complete ban on the sale and movement of alcohol was introduced in connection due to the main corona-event of the year, and many local wineries and breweries were in a difficult situation. But in August the ban was canceled and they were allowed continue work. I'm happy with it, because in general the wines of South Africa (and this winery in particular) turned out to be very good and it would be a shame if they disappeared during the crisis.

As I mentioned in my blog, I love good wines. Not necessarily expensive and sophisticated, but delicious. I can note Chenin Blanc and interesting blends with Chardonnay of the white wines of South Africa, and of the reds, I like wines from the Syrah and especially Pinotage (but we tried Pinotage, I think, at another winery — it is good to travel through the wine regions :))

After the tasting, you can wander around the winery. Outside it is a nice white building in some classical style, but inside... Inside is is beautyfull and has and a very special atmosphere. The storage contains barrels of wine, beautiful vaulted brick ceilings, dozens of lights from chandeliers. Because of this atmosphere, even if you have never been a fan of wine, you involuntarily want to take home one or two of such nice barrels ... :)

There you can also cuddle with some unusual (experimental?) storage of wine from the new harvest of that year. There is a special love for Chardonnay in this embrace, isn't it? :)

But time runs, so it's time to say goodbye to the hospitable winery and go further. It was a pity, but someone still had to leave there that big egg with Chardonnay :)

The area around the winery is very picturesque. Trees, flowers and bushes, a little further you can see the vineyards with the last unharvested bunches, there is a pond around which you can walk. Nice place.

Before leaving, some of us bought a couple bottles of wine they liked at the tasting. It seems to me that it is difficult to find this wine in Russia, and it will cost even more. We often bring wine from trips as a souvenir and just for ourselves. The main thing is that everything you like fits into your suitcases :)

Farewell look at the vineyard in the rays of the setting sun ...

And along the beautiful autumn alley we go to the exit. Still, autumn in the vineyard is very good and pleasant time.

It's better to watch the photo in high resolution.
