Wind Horse Camping Photos

A few photos from last week's camping trip at Wind Horse Farms. We rented a cabin for the weekend and explored the large plot of land used for sustainable forestry.

This place was filled with well-maintained hiking trails winding through some of the oldest forests left in Nova Scotia. Over the years, they just threw the scrap wood from the mill down to level-out areas and covered the trails in sawdust. This made the paths nice and cushiony for walking and should the upkeep ever get neglected, everything would easily turn back to Forrest.

There were some cool extra sites like gongs, meditation structures, and even some old horse skeletons left up past the meadow.

I'd like to go back mid-summer to check the place out once it's a little greener. The bonus to having explored the placed early spring was not having to really deal with insects, minus the ticks.

This tree was at the center of all the trails. It was massive. It might be one of the oldest trees in the province.

Our cabin was quite rustic and cozy. With only a single solar panel on a 12-volt battery and spotty cell service, it was nice to hang out for a few days without much media. With a few more add-ons like a small fridge, I could have stayed there for months.

We hiked up the meadows for lunch Saturday afternoon. We found an old gong to hang out by and play in the field. The ticks were a little bad but where aren't they bad this time of year in Nova Scotia? People get so worried about them but all you have to do is check yourself over occasionally and keep an eye out for them. No sense in avoiding certain activities over an irrational fear of a tiny bug.

I'd definitely like to go back sometime when the leaves are all grown in. This place has a really magical feel to it and I'm sure it's even better right in the middle of summer.
