Resistance to main current 4. With documentation (Set "Equality")

in #photography4 years ago

Good morning to all!

"Cold Crush tapes were so popular that they faced any record of the moment.

But Caz did things for the audience and he didn’t have a record.

The important thing was still to play live". Kool Moe Dee

"That old-school era that started in '72, '73 and lasted until 1979, is something we treasure, but there is less documentation of it simply because these musicians, these poets did not record any records". Bill Adler

"When we say that people don’t know the first pioneers of Hip Hop that’s similar to Jazz.

Many of the first jazz musicians at the end of the last century were never recorded.

Some jazz pioneers didn’t want to be recorded.

It was the same with some hip hop pioneers.

They said: [That’s not the point].

It was something for the holidays". Kevin Powell

"For all of the first generation of the hip hop circle, the idea of making a record was not a reality in anyone’s mind until 1979". Grandmixer DXT

"You can divide hip hop into a.C and d.C with the invention of hip hop on disc". Bill Adler

Almost a decade after its birth, hip hop was still a live art.

He still had to move on to vinyl. But that was about to change.

And the idea of putting Hip Hop on record wouldn’t come from inside Hip Hop.

Sylvia Robinson (1936-2011)

"Sylvia Robinson had her start in the music industry as a teenage singer named Little Sylvia.

Her future husband, Joe Robinson, encouraged her to form a band with her guitar teacher, Mickey Baker.

They had a great success: [Love Is Strange]". Dan Charnas

"She had a real pedigree for R&B.

In the '70s, he had a sexy record called [Pillow Talk].

It was cool, it was successful.

Joe was his business partner.

He was a turbulent guy from Jersey and had founded his label, All Platinum Records, in New Jersey". Nelson George

"But in the middle of the '70s, he starts having some financial problems.

Sylvia asks God for a miracle to save her business and her family.

She’s going to a niece’s birthday party in Harlem.

He enters the former Harlem World nightclub and sees his first DJ rapper, Lovebug Starski.

And she sees Starski with the microphone making rhymes.

And he says: [This is it. This is my miracle. I’m going to record a record with this. Get me that guy. I want to make a record with him].

But Sylvia can’t get this Harlem rapper to rap on her record, so she asks her son, Joey, to look for some guys over there in New Jersey". Dan Charnas

"I was discovered in front of this site in 1998.

In an old 1998 Oldsmobile just outside". Master Gee

Who was in that car?

"Joey Robinson Jr. and Sylvia Robinson.

Sylbia was looking for people to rap on a record". Master Gee

"Hank was the guy from the Bronx who was a rapper, he could rap, he made pizzas here at Crispy Crusts.

The Robinsons used to say to Hank: [Closes shop. We want to hear you rap].

Hank goes up to his new 98, all smeared with flour, gravy and sausage juice. And he starts rapping. And this guy goes in.

The guy and Hank took turns, at 2 a.m. on a Friday night, and she was like: [Man, I don’t know who to pick].

So I said: [Ms. Robinson, I can rap].

She was very kind and heard me. She said: [Show me yours].

I said: [Hip Hop, Hippie...]

And she said: [I can’t make a decision between the three].

Then he said: [I’ll join you three. Come Monday, we’ll record a record]. Wonder Mike
