The structure was never finished, although it was occupied. This indicates the owner encountered financial issues to me.

Reminds me of one of the Umbrella Corporation training sites. They had a central staircase just like this one!

I'm thinking of the one from resident evil zero. That one in the mountains, where you fight the bat? It was the second level in resident evil: the umbrella chronicles.
It looks like a nice place, but the decor is truly creepy. I would not want to stay here, although that large main room with the chandelier does remind me of Tony Montana's mansion in Scarface :-)
