First thing, about the #SteemBloPoMo Day 35 in my title - I know months don't generally have 35 days, but @fionasfavourites and I decided to keep on posting for #SteemBloPoMo for at least the next day or two. 😊
Next, for a Mostly Silent Sunday, we had a pair of Turkey Vultures show up outside our bedroom window this morning, and they were kind enough to hang out for a bit of a photo session.
Now, on to my photos & videos!
Hubby noticed this Turkey Vulture hanging out on the rock just outside our bedroom window this morning
He said he thought a crow was on the ground near it, but when I zoomed in with my camera, I realized it was another turkey vulture!
Not a great shot, but to give you an idea of where they both were
Then the vulture that was on the ground hopped up on the rock
I think they realized the paparazzi is stalking them!
Here's the first bit of video. I stripped out the audio, since all you could hear was the sound of our space heater. While I had the camera on my tripod (which is my usual these days), I kept my hand on it so I could zoom in & out - unfortunately, it meant the camera work was a little shaky thanks to my Essential Tremor. However, the BIG bounces around the 30 second mark had nothing to do with my perpetual dance moves, and everything to do with our cat Freddie trying to get my attention by gently biting my elbow! 😂
Oh, and if you look closely, you can see they were getting swarmed a bit by (I'm presuming) Mayflies, and were snapping at them. At the end, I tried to zoom in, but the camera went out of focus so I stopped & started again with the second video...
In this second, much shorter (35 seconds) video, it's a bit more zoomed in up until they get ready to fly off the rock. I zoom back out at the end, and you can see how close they were to the house.
They didn't fly too far at first, though. One landed someplace over the house (and may have even been on the roof, since they like to perch there), but one stayed in a nearby tree for a moment
He knows I'm still here watching...
...so he decided to preen a bit!
Now that he's done...
...it's time to head off!
Thanks for stopping by!

Nice shots. We don't have such kind of birds here.
Awesome photos and videos of the buzzards!
Honestly, I've never really seen one alive before. This really is something new to see.
They look so badass and mean ..
