Fish Port of Kuala Susoh

Introduction

An ongoing scientific study to detect ancient ports and settlements on the western and southern coasts of Aceh is on the banks of the Indian ocean. The western and southern coastal regions of Aceh are a place that is always visited by European nations, an area that is preoccupied with the spice trade of plantation products during the period of Aceh Darussalam kingdom in the middle ages.

The 4-member team is @keuudeip as the lead researcher, @vannour as a photographer, and two research assistants @safar01 and @abelpasai. The present study is a preliminary survey to detect the potential to determine the point in subsequent research.

Narratives and scientific studies are done by @keuudeip, while I only upload photos to the public, especially on Facebook Group MAPESA ( @mapesa ) "MASYARAKAT PEDULI SEJARAH ACEH (Aceh Historical Concern Society)". @mapesa as a sponsor requires the expedition team to publish all photographs, data and information and that are found in the field to the general public through social media. All photographs in the course of scientific research sponsored by @mapesa are free license for the benefit of science.

The expedition trip to the west and south coast of Aceh has ended for 9 days (13-21 August 2017), and the team has returned safely to Banda Aceh. This trip is named #EspspedisiMuhammadGhauts.

Fish Port of Kuala Susoh

The busyness of fishermen at the fish port of Kuala Susoh, Southwest Aceh Regency.

Kuala Susoh is a port city busied by pepper trade in the Aceh Darussalam period, is part of busyness in port of Kuala Batu. America has an important role in the spice trade for this region.

The story can be know through the book Salem Vessels and Their Voyages: A History of the Pepper Trade with the Island of Sumatra, author by George Granville Putnam.

The most shocking the world in the region at that time, the American military invasion of the port city of Kuala Batu or Quallah Battoo, (my old post: Kuala Batu or Quallah Battoo (History, Life and Nature).

The en.wikipedia.org source:

The First Sumatran expedition, which featured the Battle of Quallah Battoo (Aceh: Kuala Batèë, Malay: Kuala Batu) in 1832, was a punitive expedition by the United States Navy against the village of Kuala Batee, presently a subdistrict in Southwest Aceh Regency. The reprisal was in response to the massacre of the crew of the merchantman Friendship a year earlier. The frigate Potomac and its crew defeated the local uleëbalang (ruler)'s forces and bombed the settlement. The expedition was successful in stopping Sumatran attacks on U.S. shipping for six years until another vessel was plundered under different circumstances, resulting in a second Sumatran expedition in 1838. I think the ports of Quallah Battoo and Kuala Susoh are an area of the past. Here some photos in Kuala Susoh shot on 2017-08-17.
