Travel Pro Places of Interest #303: Saturday Night Market in Koh Phangan Thailand! Part Three (9 photos)

When I think Thailand I think beaches, great weather, amazing food, and markets! The island of Koh Phangan has it all, especially when Saturday Night comes around! The locals come from all over the island, set up their stands just before sunset and the market runs until about 10pm these days. The market stretches through almost the length of the town of Thong Sala along the coast toward the pier.

Thong Sala is the largest and is the main town in Koh Phangan. This is where you come on and off the island, where the supermarkets, banks, and the post office are located. This is also where you will probably find the best deal for renting a motor bike too. So appropriately the Saturday market is situated in the right spot on the island.

This market is a good size but would be considered small compared to larger more populated places like the city of Chiang Mai in the north. Their Night Market is far bigger, maybe 10 times larger. Even though this market is small by comparison, you can still get the awesome Thai night market experience and enjoy some delicious treats!

From sticky rice and mango to a squid omelette they have it all here and more! One of my favorite snacks is the Northern Thai Spicy Sausage, bursting with flavor of fresh lemongrass and Thai chilies. It's a whole lot of fun and it often seems like the whole island comes together to have a great time. Now before you get too hungry come along and lets have a look around the Saturday Night Market in Koh Phangan Thailand.

THANK YOU

Oh, baby! Just take that seafood and toss it in this bag here! Doesn't that just look so amazing? I am wanting to be there and when travel opens, I must get there, eating my way through Thailand... one town at a time.

Have you ever seen such delectablely, delicious food? Me neither!

#MarketFriday has evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but, it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact of what is normal for where you live? These are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I can only hope this to be true.

Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:
