We have already commented on the growing danger posed by space debris, especially with the rise of the space race. According to experts, there are nearly twelve thousand satellites in orbit, of which more than two thousand have already stopped working but continue to orbit, making them a dangerous pile of space junk.
Ya hemos comentado alguna vez el creciente peligro que supone la basura espacial, sobre todo con el auge que está tomando la carrera espacial. Según los expertos hay cerca de doce mil satélites en órbita de los cuales más de dos mil ya han dejado de funcionar pero siguen orbitando lo que los convierte en un peligroso montón de chatarra espacial.
Historically, the European Space Agency (ESA) obliged the companies responsible for satellites to eliminate them within a period of twenty-five years after the end of their useful life, but, given the current proliferation of these devices, the ESA has reduced the period for their destruction to just five years after stopping operation.

In this scenario, ESA has trusted the Spanish company GMV and its Cat system, a technology designed after two years of work and one million euros of investment, to remove all satellites that are out of service from orbit using basically a space claw to catch satellites in mid-flight, hence the name Cat.
En este escenario la ESA ha confiado en la empresa española GMV y su sistema Cat, una tecnología diseñada tras dos años de trabajo y un millón de euros de inversión, para retirar de la órbita todos los satélites que están fuera de servicio utilizando básicamente una garra espacial que atrapar los satélites en pleno vuelo, de ahí el nombre de Cat que es gato en inglés.
This claw will be mounted on a space vehicle that is capable of approaching in a synchronized and safe manner, since the satellites that are withdrawn are already incapable of maneuvering. Once the satellite is captured, the vehicle pushes them towards the Earth until they enter the atmosphere and they end up disintegrating before reaching land.
Esta garra irá montada sobre un vehículo espacial que sea capaz de aproximarse de forma sincronizada y segura ya que los satélites que se retiran ya son incapaces de maniobrar, una vez capturado el satélite el vehículo los empuja hacia la Tierra hasta que entran en la atmósfera y acaban desintegrándose antes de tocar tierra.

But it seems that the ESA has already ordered this capture interface to be incorporated into four of the six satellites that will be launched in its Copernicus program, with which to verify the usefulness of this technology.

Pero parece que la ESA ya ha mandado incorporar este interface de captura en cuatro de los seis satélites que se lanzarán en su programa Copernicus, con los que poder comprobar la utilidad de esta tecnología.
Personalmente les deseo mucha suerte, a ver si España deja de ser conocida solamente por los toros y la juerga y nos volvemos famosos por algo un poco más digno.
