We have commented many times on this blog about the problem posed by the plastics discarded by all of us, in the form of bags, containers or bottles that pass from the rivers to the sea and that finally accumulate until they form true islands of plastic since, although it is not openly recognized, the percentage of plastic that is recycled is quite low.
Hemos comentado muchas veces en este blog el problema que suponen los plásticos desechados por todos nosotros, en forma de bolsas, envases o botellas que de los ríos pasan al mar y que finalmente se van acumulando hasta llegar a formar verdaderas islas de plástico ya que, aunque no se reconoce abiertamente, el porcentaje de plástico que se recicla es bastante bajo.

Given that humans do not seem to be changing our behavior in the short term, any invention that helps us remove all that huge amount of plastic from our environment is welcome, as is the case of WasteShark, a robot developed by the company Aqua Libra capable of cleaning large bodies of water from plastics.

The WasteShark robot is electric so it is very quiet and does not affect the river's fauna. It can work for 8 hours uninterrupted and has a range of 5 kilometers. It not only collects plastic containers and bottles but can also collect waste biomass or clean areas that have a high concentration of algae.
El robot WasteShark es eléctrico por lo que es muy silencioso y no afecta a la fauna del río, puede trabajar durante 8 horas ininterrumpidamente y tiene un alcance de 5 kilómetros, además no solo recoge envases y botellas de plástico sino que también puede recoger residuos de biomasa o limpiar zonas que tengan una alta concentración de algas.
According to its creators, this robot is inspired by the whale shark, a large shark that travels through the seas with its big mouth open, swallowing a large amount of plankton. In the same way, the WasteShark robot travels through the waters "swallowing" up to twenty-one thousand plastic bottles in just one day and all of this completely autonomously.
Según sus creadores este robot está inspirado en el tiburón ballena, un gran tiburón que recorre los mares con su bocaza abierta engullendo gran cantidad de plancton, de la misma manera el robot WasteShark recorre las aguas "tragándose" hasta veintiuna mil botellas de plástico en un solo día y todo ello de forma totalmente autónoma.
At this moment the robot is entrusted with the task of cleaning the River Thames in the United Kingdom, in industrial docks in the Docklands area where more than one hundred thousand workers attend every day, so it is inevitable that the river will be filled with plastic waste of bags and packaging that keep the shark robot entertained.
