Whilst investigating the death of a local painter, a helpful mechanic called Jenna Olsson uncovers a legend about a supernaturally-cursed, bendy sausage circulating throughout Cornwall. As soon as anyone uses the sausage, he or she has exactly 80 days left to live.
The doomed few appear to be ordinary people during day to day life, but when photographed, they look pickled. A marked person feels like a vast maggot to touch.
Jenna gets hold of the sausage, refusing to believe the superstition. A collage of images flash into her mind: a beautiful cat balancing on a ginger painter, an old newspaper headline about a safari accident, a hooded owl ranting about lips and a drinking well located in a wild place.
When Jenna notices her toenails have maggot-like properties, she realises that the curse of the bendy sausage is true and calls in her father, a scout called Forest Willis, to help.
Forest examines the sausage and willingly submits himself to the curse. He finds that the same visions flash before his eyes. He finds the beautiful cat balancing on a ginger painter particularly chilling. He joins the queue for a supernatural death.
Jenna and Forest pursue a quest to uncover the meaning of the visions, starting with a search for the hooded owl. Will they be able to stop the curse before their time is up?
