The very word RETENTION implies that those who are at the ATTENTION phase are what a platform can then RETAIN/CONVERT.
Clearly how far they go into the process is open to individual experience. READERS are important when the main content is TEXT BLOGGING. The money rewards works to entice readers into CONTENT CREATORS. Hence why Hive content creators are mainly from Latin America because the small dollar rewards that Hive gives BLINDLY is actually life changing.
So that's my other point (which I made with the empanadas line way back). Is that what Hive is... a latin american workforce generating rewards for those plugged into blind trails? I actually believe it's good Latin America is getting a slice of the rewards but then in a year when Hive is FULL SPANISH how on Earth is that going to attract anything but Spanish people?
Steemit as an example is FULL KOREAN... however steemit always was Korean imo. They kicked out the westerners but the westerners claimed "we the community left"... Anyway that's another issue entirely.
Seriously though you are a simpleton. Even @blocktrades himself recently put a post out pointing out that Hive actually does well at getting page views from western countries... but only a small amount become active users.
So in respect to your point, YES READERS DON'T ADD VALUE if they don't transact... but that's THE POINT of my whole argument. THAT the system fails then if it can't convert traffic/page views effectively.

ATTENTION RETENTION: How much time a user spends on a site before closing it.
USER RETENTION: How likely a user to return to the site.
USER CONVERSION: How likely a user will create an account
A retained user still does have an attention retention rate.
So you are moving the goal post from Hive not growing to Hive not retaining enough users from western countries.
Arguing with you is just like arguing with a 5-year-old, you move your goalposts every time. You assign your own meanings to suit your needs and to look like you are right. You changed your point from medium.com and its attention retention to the system fails if it can't convert traffic/page views effectively.
