POEM/ WE TEAR BUT THEY CHEER

in #poetry6 years ago

This is my entry for this for the steemit creative curation show by @isaria. i hope it ends up curated. This poem is about the state of Nigeria as we live in abject poverty and my intense intention to help some kids who hawk or are malnourished in my environment. It is a way of giving back to the society.

The land is arid,
The atmosphere acrid,
We live in penury,
With gay, they live in luxury,
We tear but they cheer.

Companies retrenching in droves,
Unemployment swelling like the flying doves,
We live in penury,
With gay, they live in luxury,
We are in tear, but in reclining chair they cheer.

The waifs and strays people turned,
Mendicants everyone turned,
Insufficiency a leech to the skin,
We live in penury,
With gay, they live in luxury,
We are deeply in tear, with ease they cheer.

Take a look around and observe,
The atmosphere deeply rank,
Penury pervading, luxury hard to come by
We live in tear, in bliss they cheer

Election on the horizon we await,
Cap in hand they come with intrinsic hate,
We pine away without the essentials,
Our situation they foment... No liberation or frontiers

In peace they cheer while we tear,
They live in luxury,
We live in penury.
The boot will soon be on the other leg.
