her favorite movie
her head on your lap
you stroking her hair
you don't like this movie
you want only to be close to her

together on the porch
together in the night
talking about nothing
talking about everything
time doesn't matter now
though it will tomorrow
that is what true love feels like
you feel her anger
you should have called
uncertain why you didn't
uneasy with your guilt
upset with your own insensitivity
you are relieved that she still cares
that is what true love feels like
together in bed
one arm across her hip
one touching her hair
uncomfortable for you
her comfort matters more
as we drift off together
that is what true love feels like.

It was a staple of my weekly radio show and my former work as a leader in the largest community on the platform, which I have now disassociated with. I don't mind being quoted, but I'm selfish a bit about the phrase lest former family, turned something less savory, claim it as their own. Feel free to share the love, all the same...
