Janet was exhausted. She came outside and sat on the stone chair in her corridor. She had tried to weld her eyes shut, but it kept popping open. Is 3:00 pm already, just a few hours left for them to go out and take a coffee. Two things were running in my mind; thinking about Phillips consoles me, food for my heart, and remembering the unfortunate incident was a disappointment. Phone rings, “Hello brother,” she said. “Hi sister how’s California?” he asked excitedly. “Fine Michael, How are you and mummy?” “Everyone is fine. We just called a lawyer now. And the police called me asking where you are. Should I tell him?”
“Please don’t tell them.” She snapped. “Sister I think is best we tell them because they may believe that you are running away from the case and because of this they will see you as the main suspect or brain behind it.” Michael blushed out. “Alright, give him my new number and tell him where I’m,” Michael promised to stand by her, as well as the lawyer who has placed his solidarity to win the case. One moment, it was as if she was felt a glimpse of unconsciousness.
As she started to float toward consciousness, Janet focused, drifted, and then focused again. She saw the whirl of a white ceiling rather than the pure blue arc of sky. Even when the mist returned, she couldn’t face it a second time. She found as she rose closer to the surface that she didn’t have the will to fight against it. If she’d had the strength, she might have wept.
Then she felt a cold hand on her neck, Phillip’s voice pierced the last layers of fog, low and gentle. “Calm down baby. You are alright now.”
Though her breath hitched as she inhaled, Janet opened her eyes. The pain didn’t come. All she felt was his hand on her cheek, all she saw was his dreamy eyes.”Phil.” she called out, and then reached for his hand, the one solid thing she was sure of. Her voice frightened her. It was hardly more than a wisp of air spreading out.
She beckoned to him and held him tightly to his body. “Now baby, are you ready to tell me what’s going on with you. Why are you sobered and feeling slightly depressed?” Janet held his wrist tightly. “I will be okay dear. Everything is going to be fine.” Phillip reluctantly nodded, but certain that she was not fine. But he will figure out what was bothering her.
“Is 6:00 pm already, can we go out for a coffee baby?” Phillip enquired. “Yes, we can, just give me some minutes.” Phillip quietly took her to the room. Turning away, she busied herself by rearranging everything she’d just arranged in her drawers and closet. Thinking whether to tell Phillip about the incident or not. “After all, they hear not into a serious relationship,” she told herself. There’s were memories, where she’d spent one giddy, whirlwind night of love with Phillip. It had been the time they were able to sleep together through the night, embracing each other.
She wore a denim gown with, leggings and a winter coat. She combed her hair and packed it one side. She came out to the sitting room, and Phillip stares at her, and there’s this passion that flows even more in his veins. The passion that says he can’t let go of Janet no matter the situation.
He stood up and crossed his hands on her waist and then they stormed into the car.
