RE: The Goddamn Covid Blues

in #poetry4 years ago (edited)

You know I could dispute many of these statements, but I won't bc I miss you, my friend, and know the anarchy message - I grew up believing it and still believe in individualism and the concept that that government is best that governs least...but having said that I'm alarmed by the rise of the alt-right and militias that seem to 'mask' under an anti-government, anti-police, and extreme 1st amendment stance (Well, 2nd amendment too, lol, to back up their intentions).

It reminds me of G7 protests where so-called 'anarchists' wreak mayhem, except these yahoos are racist bigots and vigilantes. Fact is, the climate denying, science denying current US government ignored Covid until it got completely out of hand. Almost a quarter of a million dead and people politicizing a plague? Pure stupidity at the grassroots and highest levels. I feel absolutely grieved by this situation and can't believe that peole from Bill Gates to Dr. Fauci are 'over the top' and over-reacting to a modern American tragedy. Yes, the rest of the world is suffering, but the USA used to be a world leader at least in its pursuit of noble ideals.

Seeing the rise of nazi sentiments around the world tells me that authoritarianism flourishes when governments fail to govern and right now individuals are held hostage to mass prejudice and hatred. There's no retreat from this chaos even into a small society of friends - this emergency requires large-scale action and macro measures because it's eroded so many basic societal structures. Anyway, I didn't want to vent, but right now venting seems to help...along with wearing a mask, washing hands and keeping at a safe distance. Sad.

Friend, there's overwhelming evidence supporting all my assertions, readily available to anyone who looks. The government response to Covid is a crime against humanity.

Of course, I'm completely with you when it comes to disdain for violent and racist protestors who do nothing but amplify the devastation caused by state tyranny, but my cynical observation is that even that all just plays into the state's agenda.
