Let's sit, listen to beautiful music and read story of old times when there were not christian Europe and lands are ruled by pagan tribes.
This story starts long time ago when slavic tribes lives in outlying lands. People have happy and long lives thanks to great wisdom of their chiefs, three brothers: Lech, Czech i Rus. Slavic tribes lived in such prosperity that they grow bigger and bigger. Unfortunately when population was growing, its started to run out of fishes in rivers, seeds from fields and animals in forests. People became to be afraid of hunger. Our mighty brothers noticed problem and deliberated together to find solution. They deliberated for long time and decided to leave their lands and find for their nation a better place to live.
Next day, they took theirs families and friends and announced what they decided. At first this idea was not approved by people but they trusted their leader’s wisdom and decisions.
Tribes packed their belongings and prayed to their gods for successful journey.
And one day they left homeland.
In front rode armored warriors to protect elders, women, children and all their property which was on many carts.
Route was tough.
Sometimes it's leaded thought rapid rivers, sometimes its cross with pack of hungry wolves or wild and dangerous tribes. Sometimes travelers went into dark and thick forests, where were many mysterious creatures ambushed in darkness. But slavic was trusting their leaders: Lech, Czech and Rus and supporting them by prayer to their pagan gods.
After many weeks they stood in the midst of endless and rich lands. Rus told to his brothers.
My people are tired of this journey. We fill that this lands were destined for us. We will stay here and settle down.
Lech and Czech said goodbye to their brother promised that one day they will meet again.
Few days later they stand in front of beautiful mountains colored by summer sun. After they set up a camp Czech talked to Lech.
U know how much i love sun. And from this mountains i will have much closer to reach it. Its lovely place, my people will be glad to live here.
It was hard for Lech to left brother but he knew that one day he will find his place too.
After many days they took a rest and started to prepare meal. Lech look around and saw rivers full of fish, forests full of animals and green fields. Then he looked at his companions and understood that they were exhausted of endless route. He wanted to settle down here but he needed a sign from gods to be sure of his decision.
And then they heard loud noise above their heads. Slavic raised their heads and saw big, majestatic white eagle landing in the nest on top of the huge oak. Bird white feathers on a background made from red summer sunset made strong impression on Lech.
Nobody doubted that was a sign.
In honor of bird they formed new settlement in shape of nest and called it “Gniezno” which in old polish language means the nest and white eagle on red background became symbol of Lech tribe and next Poland.
