Oviedo, lub - w języku asturyjskim - Uviéu, nie jest stereotypowym hiszpańskim miastem. Leży ono w zielonym sercu Hiszpanii - w Asturii, w północnej części kraju. Bywa często określane jako sympatyczne uniwersyteckie miasto. Chyba coś w tym jest.
Przyznaję, że jest bardzo przyjaznym do życia miejscem.
Oviedo (or Uviéu in Asturian), is not the stereotypical Spanish city. It situated in the green heart of Spain - in Asturias, the northern part of the country. It is often described as a nice university town. There might be some truth to that. I admit that it is a very friendly city to live in.

Kiedy opowiadałam znajomym o tym miejscu, będąc tam na Erasmusie, opisywałam je najczęściej po prostu jako „bardziej światowy Tarnów”. Takie moje prywatne skojarzenie. :)
When I told my friends about the place while I was there on Erasmus, I usually described it simply as "a more global Tarnow."

Góry, morze, wszechobecna zieleń. To właśnie Asturia. Ciekawostką może być to, że ok. 30 % powierzchni regionu to obszary chronione.
Mountains, sea, omnipresent greenery. This is what Asturias is all about. It is interesting to note that about 30% of the region's space is protected areas.

Ale wróćmy do samego Oviedo. Miasto to zostało założone w VIII wieku i ustanowione stolicą Asturii. Jest drugim co do wielkości asturyjskim miastem (zaraz po Gijón).
But let's get back to Oviedo. This city was founded in the 8th century and established as the capital of Asturias. It is the second largest Asturian city (right after Gijón).
Wizytówką tego miasta jest katedra San Salvador. To gotycka świątynia (choć posiada też elementy barokowe i renesansowe), która jest głównym punktem na Szlaku św. Jakuba. Według podań król Alfons II, który ustanowił Oviedo stolicą Asturii, był pierwszym pielgrzymem na Camino de Santiago. (Przy okazji, stąd nazwa Camino Primitivo – pierwszego szlaku prowadzącego do Santiago de Compostela).
The landmark of this city is the San Salvador Cathedral. It's a Gothic temple (though it also has Baroque and Renaissance elements) that is a key point on the Way of St. James. According to legends, King Alfonso II, who established Oviedo as the capital of Asturias, was the first pilgrim on the Camino de Santiago. (By the way, hence the name Camino Primitivo - the first route leading to Santiago de Compostela).

W Katedrze San Salvador znajduje się wiele zabytków: Święta Arka – dębowy relikwiarz pokryty srebrem, w którym umieszczona jest Sudarium z Oviedo – czyli okrwawiony materiał, w który zawinięta była głowa Chrystusa leżącego w grobie; symbol miasta: złoty Krzyż Aniołów (IX w.) i drewniany Krzyż Zwycięstwa – według legendy niesiony przez Dona Pelayo w zwycięskiej bitwie z muzułmanami pod Covadonga (VIII w).
There are many monuments in the Cathedral of San Salvador: The Holy Ark - an oak reliquary covered with silver, in which there is the Veil from Oviedo (also called the Sudarium from Oviedo) - a bloody material in which the head of Christ passing in the tomb was wrapped; the symbol of the city: the golden Cross of Angels (9th century) and the wooden Victory Cross - according to the legend carried by Don Pelayo in the victorious battle with the Muslims at Covadonga (8th century).

W Oviedo i jego okolicach znajduje się kilka obiektów wpisanych na Listę Światowego Dziedzictwa UNESCO pod nazwą „Zabytki Oviedo i Królestwa Asturii”. Lista ta obejmuje pięć kościołów i fontannę: San Miguel de Lillo, Santa María del Naranco, Santa Cristina de Lena, Cámara Santa w Oviedo, San Julián de los Prados i La Foncalada.
There are several sites in and around Oviedo listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites under the name "Monuments of Oviedo and the Kingdom of Asturias." The list includes five churches and a fountain: San Miguel de Lillo, Santa María del Naranco, Santa Cristina de Lena, Cámara Santa in Oviedo, San Julián de los Prados and La Foncalada.

Oviedo kojarzone jest też z postacią Woody'ego Allena, który był wręcz zakochany w tym mieście i nakręcił tu kilka scen do Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Reżyser ma swój pomnik przy Calle Milicias.
Inną słynną rzeźbą są gigapośladki: Culis monumentalibus - dzieło artysty Eduarda Úrculo. Pominę tutaj swoje rozważania na temat "estetycznej" roli odlanego z brązu pomnika.
Oviedo is also associated with the figure of Woody Allen, who was even in love with the city and shot several scenes for Vicky Cristina Barcelona here. The director has his own monument on Calle Milicias.
Another famous sculpture is the giant footprints: Culis monumentalibus - the work of artist Eduardo Úrculo. I will skip here my reflections on the "aesthetic" role of the cast bronze monument.

Mówiąc o Oviedo, nie sposób nie wspomnieć o asturyjskim cydrze. Warto zajrzeć na Calle de Gascona (znaną też jako Bulevar de las Sidra) z licznymi pijalnami cydru (in. sidrerias). Cydr czuć już w samym powietrzu. ;) Nalewanie cydru do szklanki to swego rodzaju sztuka. Organizowane są nawet mistrzostwa świata. Podgląd ów wydarzenia TUTAJ.
Speaking of Oviedo, it's impossible not to mention Asturian cider. It's worth a look on Calle de Gascona (also known as Bulevar de las Sidra) with its numerous cider drinking houses (in. sidrerias). You can smell the cider in the very air. ;) Pouring cider into a glass is an art of sorts. There are even world championships organized. Preview that event HERE.
Oviedo to bajkowe miasto, które zdecydowanie polecam odwiedzić i pozwolić sobie się nim zachwycić. Nie robi ono z pewnością od razu monumentalnego wrażenia na turyście, ale potrafi go w sobie rozkochać. I to nie tylko moja opinia.
Oviedo is a fairy tale city that I strongly recommend visiting and allowing yourself to be enchanted by it. It certainly does not immediately make a monumental impression on the tourist, but it manages to make him fall in love with it. And that's not just my opinion.

Dodam tylko jeszcze, że nie polecam wybierać się tutaj bez parasola. Doświadczenie północno-hiszpańskiego deszczu gwarantowane. ☂️
