It depends as short term yes there is added expense for the consumer, but long term no. The benefits are eventually whoever is being targeted in this case in an around about way is US firms who went to Mexico due to cheap labor. From what I have seen the duty creates a window for manufacturers to make the product cheaper. In SA plastic has a 20% across the board import duty and we can manufacture the same Chinese items for less than 30% of their imported price. One everyone sees this then the imports will slowly decrease and manufacturing should resume in the US again. China is not cheap and most items are not labor intensive either so you only need the machinery now.

well i would imagine we are about to find out. The media isn't going to tell us the truth if any of this is successful but I've just gotten used the fact that all of what they say are lies. I often feel as though many of those talking heads would genuinely prefer that things fail and people suffer as a consequence rather than admit that something was a good idea and it worked.
