Agent Provocateurs
The role of a provoking agent is to trigger a reaction from a certain demographic in a society. Often we see extremist protesters who do actions such as firebomb a police station or in other cases they may be the police and may use excessive force deliberately. When the demographic which is the victim of the police attack is provoked into a reaction then it allows for the counter attack.
Typically the provocations benefit the side which wants to trigger a war. This could be a civil war which the side which is for war will label a "revolution". In general the side which is confident in victory within a conflict environment, and which has the most to gain from triggering a conflict, is often suspected as being behind these provocations.
I don't focus on conspiracy theories as these cannot be proven. What isn't a conspiracy theory is the fact that when we see conflicts in a society whether it be between genders, races, rich and poor, or other demographics, there usually is a demographic most positioned to be rewarded during the chaos.
For these reasons I try to avoid political conflicts. Wars are bad for people in business. Wars are bad for people who seek happiness because it's much harder to find happiness in a conflict zone. Wars are bad for people who prefer peace. Political conflicts which we see in the media are based around narratives to provoke tensions between different demographics. If it's a town, then the town is divided into demographics, and the media simply puts out news to keep different demographics in an inflamed conflict state. This keeps different demographics from being able to trust, and promotes fear, paranoia, and hate which often evolves from the fear and paranoia state.

Kind of reminds me of the assassination of John Lennon. His constant campaign against the Vietnam war and being an advocate for peace, deprived the warmongerers of their income-stream. That song Give Peace A Chance actually worked to help change hearts and minds and brought our boys home.
