A basketball star has been detained in Russia, Brittney Griner, over alleged drug charges related to a vape carts. And some are wondering why more attention is not being paid to this situation right now.
Why has Biden been silent on the incident instead of rallying to use the situation as more media fodder against Russia, for example?
Being detained over vape carts translates into being detained over victimless and peaceful activities.
Cannabis advocates now are calling it a failure of the white house and Biden administration to stand up for this athlete in this time of uncertainty, to denounce the detention and demand her release.
If it were another citizen, not held on drug-related charges, they wonder if Biden would be responding differently to the situation.
This is a two-time US Olympic basketball gold medalist that has been detained and supporters are still anxious about her well-being, fearful for when she might be released.
According to lawmakers, it is going to be incredibly difficult to get her out of Russia but pressure is growing to see that happen, it just isn't coming from places you might expect.
If she is convicted of those alleged drug charges then she might see several years behind bars, and with Biden celebrating the release of other Americans being unjustly held against their will it fuels more questions for why those in Russia haven't gotten the same attention.

This administration is so fucked! But that is always the case isn’t it! I am not to familiar with the details, but she had to forget she had them on her persons. That’s pretty ballsy to try to bring that through a Russian airport .
Oh and the only coverage about it I ever hear on NPR is how she has to go to Russia to play because she’s under paid in the states.
