Prioritizing Political Issues Over The Theft of Innocent People

in #politics3 years ago

Recently we have seen how quickly political representatives have been to put together one piece of triggering legislation after the next. Whether they are passing new restrictions on voting, or making changes to sports in schools, why is it they can move so quickly to engage in these political puppet shows on some issues but when it comes to protecting the community as a whole they fail? They fail miserably.

They are too busy playing politics while there are policies they let be ignored that foster the abuse and theft of innocent people, regardless of their political beliefs, in the state and around the country.

This abuse takes place thanks to the practice of civil asset forfeiture.

Despite there being multiple weak attempts at reform which have been previously passed in recent years, there is still a problem today. This legislation needs to be repealed in order to protect the rights of all Americans.

People have had their entire life savings confiscated before they've ever been charged with a crime. They have had their property taken from them when they've never been found guilty of any wrongdoing, how is that a free U.S.? It is clear that this policy violates Constitutional rights and judges have ruled the same in the past, noting that it violates U.S. Constitution's Fourth, Fifth and 14th amendments.

Many legal experts have argued that this practice amounts to no more than state sanctioned theft and how does that keep Americans safe? It doesn't. It brings danger to the community. Previous research has also found that the majority of American's are not in favor of this policy, there is bipartisan support to squash it so what is taking so long?...

Law enforcement does not need the power to bypass due process, abuse and steal from innocent people in order to do their job.

No matter how many times that lie is repeated it will never be the truth. This policy isn't an effective tool against crime, there are too many abuses that have already occurred because of it and thousands of people who have wrongfully been victimized.

Billions of dollars in cash and other property confiscated.

A great deal of property has been taken away from Americans over the years, taken from many who were never charged with a crime. This is what takes place in the U.S. today and this policy is clearly unjust because of how it arguably enables the widespread theft of innocent people.

Why isn't this a priority for representatives today? And why are actors charged with protecting our communities and serving them always in the position it seems of trying to keep this policy from being reformed? It's time to change up those priorities and seek to protect individuals in the community rather than foster an environment of abuse.

Let's see how long it takes them.
