Greenpeace boat "BELUGA II" in Mannheim

in #politics7 years ago (edited)

Today I went to visit the Greenpeace clipper ship "BELUGA II". Docked by the Neckar river landing, towards the town of Mannheim. It was a welcome sight seeing her here. ( Shes the first vessel Greenpeace Germany built from scratch, ajusted to thier needs in a Wolgast dockyard, in 2003 . Cost around 1.4 million to build and was financed mainly by donations)

Here she be:

The captain and crew are on thier way towards Bonn, once capital of west Germany. The World-climate-conference is to be held there in November 2017 and shall last for three weeks. Once they arrive, they plan to protest and raise awarness against the ultimate climate killer: Coal power production.

On thier way there, they pass quite a few citys, travelling on the Neckar. One stop is Mannheim. I live a short walk from the river front and only had to stroll over and say hello. The crew ( a very friendly, young and ambitious bunch of honorarys) were offering tours of the boat, holding presentations about climate change, its extent and the migration waves it causes, due to floods, drought, scarcity of drinking water / food, hurricanes and so on. All over the globe people are struggling because of the change in climate, whilest the main polluting nations remain mainly uninvolved and set in stalling tactics.

Time to get involved! It could be that I travel to Bonn in November. I´ll keep you posted if I decide to march in protest.

Peace out and steem on !
Lukas
