Three reasons why a libertarian society is unpopular.

  1. Most value security over liberty. Most people sadly believe the government is there to protect them from both real and imagined dangers. But in reality the governments are the biggest danger to safety. More people have murdered directly by their own government rulers then all the gangs, serial killers. It's not even close. It's call democide death by one's government. In the 20th century over 262 million were killed by their governments. This is not including war, regulations that indirectly block innovations. Government police have no duty to protect, their courts have said it over and over. Governments make people less safe.

  2. Most people lack imagination. "Who will build the roads?". "Who will take care of the poor?" "Who will defend the people from invaders?" Most folks think will say "what's your plan?" for this or that. They think ideas most be a top down and centralized to be effective. They fail to see the best way to solve problems is grass roots bottom up. This goes back to security/safety. People solve problems all the time without the help of government officials but still think the state is the solution. Governments are about sagalnstion rewarding the establishment and regulating the new up comers.

  3. People want government to be created in their own image. It doesn't matter if a group is religious or secular, left or right, rich or poor, etc people want government punish their enemies and reward themselves and supporters. Government detaches people from violence. That they don't have to get their hands "dirty". Wanted to help the poor but don't want to use the art of persuasion just get government to make a law. One thinks their fellow man makes too much get government. Want to stop new hungry competition use regulations like licensing but it's in the make of "public safety". It could a distance nation that has resources but one doesn't want to go through negotiations so create a false reason to go to war but called "fighting for freedom".
