The true story of how an ancient Egyptian deity was resurrected by online imageboard culture and helped Trump win the 2016 election
The lamestream legacy media just couldn’t wrap their heads around that smug Pepe the Frog or his homeland Kekistan.
Lets start by getting a few things out of the way:
Pepe the Frog is not a Nazi or racist symbol,
Pepe the Frog is not just another harmless meme, coming from online imageboards
Pepe the Frog is in fact a reincarnation of an ancient frog deity
The Republic of Kekistan is a sovereign nation populated by shitposters and was founded in late January of 2017 by Sargon of Akkad and friends
The people of Kekistan are called Kekistanis and they worship the Internet meme and symbol, Pepe, as the prophet of the god of meme magic, Kek.
Where did Pepe the Frog come from?
The green anthropomorphic frog is originally from a comic series by Matt Furie called Boy's Club, in 2005.
Sometime around 2010, the smug-looking cartoon frog began to trend among posters on 4chan and reddit imageboards.
And what about 'kek'?
“Kek” is a translation of the acronym “LOL” (laugh out loud) when reading text written by members of the Horde faction as an Alliance player in the MMO game World of Warcraft (WoW).
The term has its origins in the Korean language, as the onomatopoeia ㅋㅋㅋ, in which ㅋ stands for the “k” sounds, like in raspy, stifled laughter. In the real-time strategy game Starcraft, because the game originally did not support the Korean language, the onomatopoeia was written as “Kekeke” which can be translated to “Hahaha” in English.
Pepe the Frog & the 2016 Presidential Election
By mid 2015, Pepe the Frog had become the unofficial mascot for 4chan’s political discussion board “Politically Incorrect” or /pol/.
/Pol/ is a place where the unspoken outsiders of internet culture gather to discuss all things politically incorrect.
To call this place a “white nationalist” or “alt-right” message board is categorically incorrect. /Pol/, above all else, is place where our society’s status quo is mercilessly challenged. It’s a melting pot for well-meaning free thinkers and misguided mad men alike.
/pol/ is a place of chaos and wisdom.
When Donald J. Trump strolled into the presidential election in 2015, it was a match made in heaven. He immediately became /pol/’s candidate of choice.
In October 2015, Donald Trump retweeted a Pepe the Frog representation of himself, associated with a video called "You Can't Stump the Trump (Volume 4)". Later in the election, Roger Stone and Donald Trump Jr. posted a parody movie poster titled "The Deplorables", a play of Hillary Clinton's controversial phrase, 'basket of deplorables', which included Pepe's face among those of members of the Trump family and other figures popular among the America First movement.
The Magick in the Numbers
There is one more important thing to understand about imageboards and that is dubs, trips, and quads.
The term dubs is getting the last 2 digits of your post number the same number, trips is getting the last 3 the same, and quads is the last 4.
Since a shitposter wont’t know their post number until after they’ve submitted the post, its common for people to “bet” the contents of their message on the occurrence of repeating digits. When that endeavor proves successful, a “GET” has been made and the stroke of luck is celebrated.
GET refers to a randomly generated event on imageboards when a post’s unique ID number consists of rare or repeating integer sequences, such as 1,000,000, 123456789 or 55555555. Many users deliberately try to time their posts in order to attain a GET milestone.
Things really started getting interesting when frequent GET's were appearing within /pol/.
It didn't take much before all of these seemingly random and unrelated elements discussed so far became undeniably tied together within imageboard culture:
Pepe the Frog (now /pol/’s unofficial mascot)
Donald Trump (/pol/’s overwhelming candidate of choice)
Repeating digit post numbers (“GETS”) often using sevens
“KEK” (used as an expression of laughter, particular in response to Trump’s “trolling” of the establishment, as well as in reaction to unlikely GETs in general)
…and a deity was born.
The Coincidences Don't Stop There
Soon, it became all the rage on /pol/ to praise Trump as nothing less than god’s chosen candidate.
But which god’s chosen candidate exactly?
The answer is obvious: Kek.
Remember how we learned that “kek” the meme came about from an obscure Korean language onomatopoeia, completely independently from Pepe the Frog?
Well, it turns out Kek is also—and always has been—an ancient Egyptian deity…
A frog-headed one.
The second major coincidence can be found when one looks into what Kek stood for among the ancient Egyptian pantheon:
Kuk (also spelled as Kek or Keku) is the deification of the primordial concept of darkness in ancient Egyptian religion…
…Like all four dualistic concepts in the Ogdoad, Kuk’s male form was depicted as a frog, or as a frog-headed man, and the female form as a snake, or a snake-headed woman. As a symbol of darkness, Kuk also represented obscurity and the unknown, and thus chaos. Also, Kuk was seen as that which occurred before light, thus was known as the bringer-in of light.
Who else, at this point, had been declared a “bringer of light” into the world by enthusiastic supporters (mainstream and imageboard alike)?
The Donald of course.
The pot really started to boil when this bizarre misprint statuette was dug up from a mysterious vendor called “Ancient Treasures” on Amazon. For years the product had been coincidentally mislabeled a “KEK” statue, despite actually bearing the hieroglyphics for the frog goddess HEQET.
And ya know, the thing about this ONE unique arrangement of hieroglyphics…they bear an undeniable resemblance to a certain special something:
Do you see it? - A person sitting down, in front of a computer.
Like say, to post on an imageboard?
And what’s that on the other side of the computer? - Looks a lot like internet meme magick.
Hillary Clinton Declares Pepe the Frog an Enemy of the State:
Literally...
Here’s the short version:
Pepe is a cartoon frog who began his internet life as an innocent meme enjoyed by teenagers and pop stars alike.
But in recent months, Pepe’s been almost entirely co-opted by the white supremacists who call themselves the “alt-right.” They’ve decided to take back Pepe by adding swastikas and other symbols of anti-semitism and white supremacy.
But Here is the Creepiest Part - Kek/Pepe’s musical anthem is discovered on YouTube:
While all of this was happening, one or a few anonymous 4chan contributors discovered an old track from the 80’s on YouTube. A track stamped all over with a very familiar face:
A B-side vinyl by performer “P. E. P. E.”, with art showing a frog with a magic wand.
A frog.
What’s P. E. P. E. stand for?
Point
Emerging
Probably
Entering
“Probably.” What are sweet repeating digit GETs all about? Probability.
What is this “gist” of Kekism on /pol/? He speaks to them through dubs. Their ancient egyptian god of obscurity and chaos “emerges/enters” at “points” of “probability.”
This track immediately became the national anthem for Kekistan and its oppressed people.
So…What's Next?
You mean what’s next for Pepe, and Kek, and the stalwart meme magicians of 4chan’s /Politically Incorrect/?
