Jesus Christ does not fit with the world view of the Conservative Christian.

in #politics6 years ago (edited)

Is the phrase ‘Conservative Christian’ an oxymoron? Perhaps not, but certainly they are the political group least likely to exhibit the Christ like features of love and compassion.

It was interesting to read a self-described ‘Conservative Christian’ (CC) on twitter complaining that her and her friends were often described as racists. This was followed by quite derogatory comments about Mexicans and other illegals in ‘our country’.

I reminded the aforesaid CC that Jesus’ earliest years were (according to the Gospel of Matthew), spent as a refugee in a foreign land, and then as a displaced person in a village a long way from his family’s original home. Her nonsensical response was “No, not a refugee, I prefer to call him a traveler.” I guess her response should not surprise me in an age where we all make up our own reality and freely disregard what we don’t want to hear as ‘fake news’.

It would be interesting to see how today’s CCs would respond to Jesus were he around today. As a man of middle-eastern appearance without regular employment or US citizenship, I suspect they would deny him, at least three times, if not more.

What a sad and disheartening political age we live in, particularly for the vulnerable and the disadvantaged, the poor people Jesus Christ would have communed with and championed.

Sort:

It is a sad reality that many devoted Christians do not have a Biblical worldview. But rather a very political worldview shaped by the current agenda.
Thank you for a strong point phrased in gentle terms.

Hey @reonlouw do you follow the cricket?

Hi @robpyne. Yes, I do, but mostly the SA team. They are currently playing Australia in SA. Seems like an exciting series. I'm hoping to attend at least one day of the last match in the series. Enjoy one day games, but the 20/20 games I do not consider to be cricket.

Are you a fan?

Couldn't be better!
