The Most Liked and Least Liked US Senators

Morning Consult has recently released their annual poll of the approval ratings of every US Senator. The methodology of the poll was straightforward and logical. "Survey respondents were assigned to their appropriate governor and senators based on their state of residence, assigned to their member of Congress based on a combination of zip code, IP address, latitude, and longitude..." (1). Let's take a look at the top results.

Highest Approval Ratings

Coming in at number 1 is Bernie Sanders. Honestly, there is no one else it could've been. In the span of the past couple years, Sanders went from a no-name independent that caucused with the Democrats into a powerhouse for a political revolution. Trailing right behind Bernie are the two senators of Hawaii. Personally, I love many of the representatives of Hawaii, especially Tulsi Gabbard. It doesn't surprise me at all that Hawaii politicians are rated so high, you have to get along on an archipelago that far out in the middle of the ocean. Fifth place is held by the other Senator from Vermont, Patrick Leahy. I can't say I know much about Representative Leahy, but I'd imagine being right next to Bernie Sanders gives you a nice little boost.

I am moderately astonished though that in 4th place came someone the state that had the whole DAPL catastrophe, which might I mention is still an ongoing battle. Before becoming a Senator, Hoeven had a 10-year tenure (heh) as the Governor of North Dakota. Evidently, his success did not dissipate. Even though I may not agree with his policy, his constituents do and that's all that really matters when you're trying to get elected. Nice job being the only Republican in the top 5, Representative Hoeven!

Highest Disapproval Ratings

Please note that the above chart is based on highest disapproval rating not lowest approval rating.

It's hard to predict who the least liked politicians will be at any given time, but I think this is a somewhat fair representation of the current political climate. People are sick of the establishment, and people like you and I can see right through McCain's "maverick" attitude and McConnell's turtle faced bullshit. These are the people trying to push through a healthcare bill that will throw 15 million people off of their insurance over the next year and 22 million over the next 10 years, and not to mention raise your grandma's premiums by 3 times.(2)

I'd like to add that even though these politicians may have high disapproval ratings, our President sits at a 54.3% disapproval rating (3), the Democratic party sits at a 49.7% disapproval rating (4), and the Republican party takes the cake with a 55.9% (5).
