AUGUSTA – Senate President Michael Thibodeau (R-Waldo) has appointed Senator Eric Brakey (R-Androscoggin) to serve on the newly formed Task Force on Health Care Coverage for All of Maine.

“I will be a voice for free market solutions —not more failed big government programs —as the best way to increase healthcare affordability for all Maine people.”

Established this year with a Joint Study Order, the bipartisan task force will consist of four members of the Senate, four members of the House of Representatives and stakeholders including representing hospitals, health care providers, consumers and employers, both large and small.

The purpose of the task force is to design three health care models ranging from a universal payer health benefits system to a design for a public health benefits option that would allow consumers to choose between public and private health care options, encouraging robust competition among the public and private plans.

The task force must present an initial report to the Legislature, which will include suggested legislation, by November 1, 2018.
