Sorry Modern Socialists, but it's true.

Every once in a while, a meme comes along that is so accurate it's hard not to repost. This is one of those memes because it's just so right on point -- and hilarious to boot! Sorry neo-socialists (a/k/a millennials ;-) ), but Turning Point USA nailed it!

Every major piece of technology in Iphone is a result of public investment in science:

  • Computer
  • Internet
  • GPS
  • Touchscreen

Is it hypocritical to be against public spending if you have an Iphone? No, and it's not hypocritical to be for public spending and have an Iphone. In fact, whether you have a cellphone and drink coffee have nothing to do with whether it's a good idea to vote for the left or right wing parties.

Lord only knows how much more quickly technology and science could develop if corporations were taxed less and those companies could fund projects on their own? Could you imagine the innovation and progress if there wasn't giant government bureaucracies attached to some of that public spending? Your analysis doesn't really offer a fair comparison. It's utter nonsense to believe that these innovations would have occurred solely with government funds at the scale with see them. It's certainly hypocritical to be pro-socialism while you sip lattes from Starbucks, using your iPhone.

So:

  • It's hypocritical to drink coffee from Starbucks if you support socialism, because Starbucks is a big international corporation.
  • It's not hypocritical to use the internet while being a libertarian, because although internet was invented by the government, it could have been developed by a private company in an alternative reality.
