Let's say you have $100,000 to throw towards advertisement of @ecency. An open-source front-end of Hive with multiple formats continuously being developed and maintained. It'd make a good contender for DHF advertisement due to its open-source nature.
I will add three different polling options below.
Naturally, the idea is that you pick the one you think would do the best for ecency in terms of clicks, clickthroughs and potential signups based on where the ad is being shown.
Some things to keep in mind:
Ecency is a front-end that shows niche communities for long form content along with comments as well as content based on tags or your feed or the hot/trending filter.
Ecency also allows viewing of embedded videos within posts from youtube, threespeak and many more as well as images and gifs.
Ecency also has a short form content similar to twitter/threads with limited word count.
All of these options are curateable through hive's upvote and downvote system as well as showing their pending rewards.
Let me know in the comments which poll you picked and why! (there are no wrong answers)
You are allowed to use your opinion to sway others into voting your way if you believe your pick is the best out of the 3 options.
The poll results are stake-weighted based on Hive:HP and only 1 vote is allowed which cannot be changed and will show the results after you cast your vote.
I'd go with Youtube.
Several brands there with massive fan bases. Brands (or channels) can create a rewarding community for themselves that would rival something like Patreon. Patreon proves fan bases bring their money with them. 1 brand = thousands of fans arriving here.
Direct-to-fan experiences.
The other two options would only lead to attracting more content creators wanting to get paid. In other words: stagnation
Worth mentioning "Support my patreon" is said all day online to millions of people. Take that 100k, have people saying "Support my Hive thing," forever. The Brands end up marketing this place, for free.
Brand says, "Support OUR community on Hive" to their audience. aka: Paradigm shift
Guess who's in their audience? Other brands that don't even exist on Youtube. They come build their communities for their markets. aka: Snowball effect.
Spending $100,000 to recruit random creators into topic-based communities that have no audience won’t pay off — it will just increase losses because those creators won’t generate revenue.
We're not a Patreon, but rather a blog-type social network... So advertising like that would be a waste of time and money.
A brand—like the owner of a YouTube channel—is a “topic” people care about.
Communities form around these topics, and we build those communities here.
Members post their thoughts about topics. Patreon proves people will financially support their favorite topics; attracting those supporters along with content creators not only brings money in the door, but also gives communities a way to reward themselves. That’s a tangible perk, and it hasn’t been done here before, or anywhere. Staking then voting is a strong, novel alternative to traditional support methods.
Patreon’s marketing approach is clever and worth replicating to get the most out of that $100k. If someone merely created the topic here without the creator broadcasting to millions on YouTube, the community would be limited to local bloggers trying to earn from a tiny, absent consumer base. Most of those creators would struggle because few locals are interested in the topic.
There are millions of these “topics” and hundreds of millions of people interested in them — you can’t have one without the other. Attracting a large base of supportive consumers creates a measurable opportunity that attracts investors.
When fans finish with a creator’s topic for the day, their attention often spills over to related communities and creators. That audience spillover can drive traffic and growth for current bloggers and even for games, which in turn attracts more development opportunities.
That's my view. Just wanted to clarify. And keep in mind this post is just a test.
Facts!
!LADY !PIZZA !ALIVE
technically we could be way better than patreon given inflation rewards that don't cost stakeholders anything as long as they check on them from time to time as well as feeless tips once we have enough merchants/ways to get in and out of hive with as low fees as fiat tips/donations.
If I were a YouTube content creator, I would never lead my audience to spend money anywhere other than on me.
YouTube now shows ads that you can't really skip, so you're kind of forced to watch at least part of the ad. So if we're going to do ads and stuff like that, YouTube is a place where you're sure to end up seeing an ad.
Nord VPN fixes that
Id guess that Facebook has the biggest number of slightly older web users who remember blogging and are most likely to sign up through interest. Hive appears to have a slightly more mature user base!
I voted for Youtube, but you actually have a very very good argument for Facebook
...or immature, depending on context!
Thanks for your vote and input!
My friends are mostly in the geriatric age bracket and they're all on facebook.
I use and love youtube the most, so I picked youtube.
But depending on what audience we are targetting it could shift..
Short content for Peakd or Snapie/Waves - The properly tiktok & Youtube shorts right? :D
In these 8 years, I have seen short contents or platforms (Web 3.0) have got good tractions. Its quick, easy grab, and then gets you involved onchain. But, I have seen these fading away in sense of coin value, spams, low ..very low quality content, vote farming, and slowly to entire Web3.0 Socials getting Down. I feel Instagram/ Tiktok could be also one option considering the users can flow their same content in and around these platforms(once snapie gets video as well) this will onboard users and stick them to what they are used to. I really feel we should prioritize what comes in feed which is just random photographic contents in snaps/waves ( limiting users by 2-3 posts a day), increasing programs on treating it like their own profile nor photo junkBins, & bringing some local influencers to share their contents. This will increase inflation(idk maybe) so limiting the vote percentage for shorts? How about building app features, curators, and then marketing?
If I had to analyze the options:
YouTube: it's full of ad blocker on you place the ads there, or people just know influencers shill shit stuff just cause they get paid, also the crowd will be limited
Facebook: it's less common among youngsters, lot of trolls and dumb people but it's extremely spreaded and very used
reddit: users are generally not very crypto friendly, they have high expectations and standards, not a good target for ads
I'll pick Facebook, but if I could I would add Instagram and vote for it, that's where lot of people are pushing towards, youths included
I think facebook / Meta is great to ads...
I choosed Facebook too but in general I got some concerns if those platforms are willing to add Ads from competitors projects.
I chose the YouTube option because, apart from being one of the few Web2 social networks that I still use today, I believe it has great potential. Especially when it comes to advertising, since most people will mostly choose to consume content in video format before anything else. There is also the advertising and announcements section, which can serve as indispensable tools to reach a specific audience much more interested in a new platform like Ecency.
Instead of being intrusive videos, they would be well-made advertising videos with a friendly voice that easily convinces the viewer or user to try and register. You can even choose which audience to target by selecting their tastes, ages, and interests. Besides, we're talking about the largest and most popular video platform on the entire internet, so there's a much greater potential reach than the other options, in my opinion.
Sure, Reddit might help attract new users who are blogging enthusiasts and such, but I think it hasn't yet fully exploited the potential of other social platforms like YouTube they can do. Although they may seem intrusive at first, the ads made for YouTube about Ecency are sure to attract a lot of attention from objective people.
I voted Reddit, with my little knowledge, ecency unique features would resonates well with Reddit audience.
They share common core values like community driven creation, curation and engagement, upvotes and the rest.
In addition ecency is built on the hive blockchain, which adds decentralization, transparency and a reward system directly tied to users contribution through cryptocurrency.
Reddit is a centralized platform where you have a central authority unlike ecency.with this kind of feature, Reddit platform would so much be the best platform for ecency to advertise.Because they would so welcome it, testing decentralization would so much be accepted and they are tech driven at that in Reddit. So it would be a good choice for ecency.
I'll choose Reddit every single time... I'll admit they're strict with the whole Advertising links thing but they do make a pretty good platform for making more people see Hive.
I read one time that when it comes to onboarding that falls on the front ends. It's so true. There should be a way that the frontend encourage the people to sign up in each blog creators make on Hive. But anyways Reddit has proven to be so great. With the other platforms based on how they operate with followers systems, unless we have users that are already big creators on the other platforms, we may not be getting many views, I could be wrong though
I took YouTube but I think it depends on which auditory we want to reach. Also I think that it could be added something like tic-tok or as I wrote several times maybe to choose some local platforms. Here again we should remember about local conditions. So final choice depends on many different aspects which result we want to have with which auditory we want to work a.s.o.
In my humble opinion, Facebook has many users and young innovative people are there and with the increase in the cost of internet services, if they learn of the benefits, they would gladly want to join Ecency
I see YouTube got more votes, but I consider Facebook for this. YouTube is a good source, but people are there mostly for videos, while Facebook users engage in various ways, which Hive is about. And I personally compare Facebook with Hive, they are similar to me, just web 2 and web 3. I even talk about some similarities between Hive with Facebook to let people understand the way of Hive easily. It'll definitely be easiest to convert Facebook members to Hive, in my opinion.
About Reddit, some ads can be made in many subreddits, even not HIVE related : opensource / web3 / webdev.
Just follow communities rules.
I will easily pick Facebook, because I have a lot of followers and friends there.
The problem with YouTube is that people who use it a lot pay for premium and don't see adverts. We could sponsor videos but that budget wouldn't go far.
It really depends on what audience you want to target and what the value proposition is. I think that since it's probably not the simplest to explain in terms of banners, I would pick video ads and they're the most native to YT, so that's why I picked that.
I see YouTube got a lot of love. That was a close second for me.
I would choose YouTube; I know many games and platforms thanks to the well-made and interesting videos posted there. Good marketing would make Hive known worldwide, with fresh content.
Un contenido que atraiga y que no ofrezca dinero , solo ver el dinero como una opción, pero que Hive sea visto como una opción para bloguear y crear videos de interés y obtener y dar conocimiento.
Youtube For me, it would be the best option because of the number of people who go there.
Hi!
I chose YouTube to promote #Ecency because I believe it's the platform that offers the most possibilities globally, allowing for effective action aimed at increasing its visibility. However, I'm not ruling out any of the other options, and using them wouldn't be a bad idea at all.
Hugs!
I picked YouTube.
I think it has the best chance of connecting with people who are likely to join the community. And YouTube gets a ton of attention.
Also, when I first found this tech, I turned to YouTube to learn how to use it.
I seem to recall that we had an advertising campaign on Facebook years ago. I don't know how effective it was but spending a hundred grand on any platform seems a bit of a waste of resources?
Spending on improving u.i.'s might help with onboarding? People need low friction and content that interests them.
Voted for Facebook but why guess? Start off with a much smaller ad campaign on all three then refocus the rest on whichever performs best.
I choose FB because it has lots of engaging people who would want to try other opportunities. My second option would have been YouTube but it's mainly videos and less engaging like FB.
Facebook. Older audience, more chances to target people why might have something to share and could be willing to do so. Redditors are happy with Reddit. Nobody sane watches YT ads.
Hi, i voted for youtube , nowdays younger as well as old generation is fully engaged with youtube incomparison of facebook, it dosent mean that fb havent viewers but in my view youtube is in number 1.
!INDEED !PIZZA
I am not very familiar with advertising strategies...
I voted for YouTube because I think Facebook and Reddit are more similiar to Hive/Ecency and YouTube is more like a video platform. If you use Facebook and Reddit frequently you are not looking for anther social media platform like those.
i love to use ecency wallet. i find the points u get so appealing! :)
I would choose FB because I think the most blogger types are on there and it would be of interest to people on there.
Almost everybody I know blocks Ad’s
YouTube is easy to not see a single ad on by just using Brave browser. I deleted Facebook over a decade ago and don’t know many people who still use it since their grandparents joined in 2015 or so. Reddit is well I dunno, I don’t use it. I wouldn’t advertise on either of these but I tend to lean toward the fact that these companies continue to play games with the numbers and have been caught red handed in past. Everybody skips podcast ads, but frankly having a host of a show mention it personally has more value then a random easily ignored pop up ad on Facebook or YouTube.

My selection: Reddit. If users click from a subreddit and are aligned with Ecency's value proposition, it means their interest is genuine. These users will not only see the ad, but they will also be much more inclined to explore the platform, understand it, and sign up. On YouTube or Facebook, from my perspective, people are usually in “entertainment mode” or “social mode,” and we would have to convince them from scratch that Ecency is worthwhile by taking them away from their main intention. On Reddit, however, they are already in “discovery mode” or “niche mode,” which would be perfect for Ecency.
This is the first thing that came to mind. Since Ecency is geared toward valuing quality content, niche communities, and Web3, it requires an audience that already has an interest in or understanding of the aforementioned concepts or is actively seeking out these types of topics or platforms.
Reddit, because it already has a crypto space in it so more chance for conversion for those who are acquainted with crypto while still having a large user base who are yet to be exposed/enticed.
Youtube and facebook may have bigger audiences but I feel like conversion would be harder to do without the right message and near frictionless onboarding.
The true right answer though is split it into all 3 and watch the numbers and adjust as you go while tailoring the ads for the platform for maximum efficiency.
Youtube 100% , I don't know anyone that uses Facebook anymore
Why not just pay for X business premium for 10x less and get 12k worth of ad credits?

I deleted Facebook years ago, Reddit banned me after sharing one of my posts on Ecency and I was unable to get myself un-banned in almost a year. So my vote is YouTube you can advertise in videos and that might be most effective.
if you're gonna create a new account, I'd suggest starting off without instantly sharing posts. Check the hivenetwork sub or holozing/splinterlands and be active commenting/voting for a while before you dive into sharing. They're bombarded by bots who just try to share and not actually be active in a more valuable sense so they have quite sophisticated anti-bot measures since their API's are still free to be used on smaller scales.
I am debating creating a new account. It seems I can still comment, but definitely cannot post. And it has not been a new account it was 3-4 year old account that got banned!

I’ve marked YouTube, but it would be wise to reconsider the way we promote it. I don’t think simple ads will work.
I would choose YouTube because everyone uses YouTube and many people search for all kinds of content.
could have added a few more choices......
I voted youtube.
sure, was mostly just a simple test to check the general pulse of my readers
Looks like YouTube won
Hmm, FB may provide the numbers, but if we also want to attract young people, YT among the 3 is probably the choice, although others might be better for this purpose.
I will pick Facebook because it's more used web2 social media and it will help thousands to learn about ecency etc.

I voted for Reddit for a few reasons:
the ads there seem targeted quite well generally, you seem to be able to select which communities/subreddits you want to target with the ads and generally reddit is quite similar to hive in terms of community niches.
We'd still need an easy way for people to create accounts and try being active here, potentially even front-ends to ask new accounts a couple questions and suggest some authors/communities to subscribe to at account creation, but generally redditor's could have an easier time getting accustomed to things here.
Close second would be youtube, but there we'd need to be clever with the ad and it may cost more if we opt for a video ad which would require even more uniqueness and grasp on viewers.
Facebook I'm not too familiar with for a long time now.
None of those would be a good use of advertising dollars and have an tremendous amount of fraud.
