It's a big decision-but is it really?
I don't think that loosing their doggie friends will be near so impactful on your children as you might think. Everything gets old, everything dies. At some level your kids know this. It will hurt, and be really painful, but they will get through and be better for it.
Like your mom said "If two is ok, why not three"?
