That there question has dealt with by a lot of post-SHTF novels. It's worrisome enough to make you want to run off to the wooods. ;)

Funny: if the S really does hit the F, widespread obesity will ease the starvation problem somewhat. I don't know of any prepper novel that's pointed this out.
