The harsh reality is that 95% of people who are in prostitution were sexually abused in their childhood-adolescence. Of course it does not justify anything, I listen to your thought. It is merely informative.
The pimps or pimps are experts in exploiting the vulnerability of girls. Whether from previous abuse, poverty, rebellion of age, dysfunctional home or simply low self-esteem.
Did you know that the average age to start in the world of prostitution is 12-14 years old?
A world full of abuse, injustice and social invisibility is what awaits them. Its mortality rate is higher than the normal average. This means that by the age of 25-30 years your body will be as damaged as that of a senior citizen. Not counting the daily death threats.
7 out of 10 women and 1 in 8 men in Mexico have suffered some type of sexual assault. These range from an "innocent" street harassment, because nobody has touched them so it does not count, right? Until a violation.
If you are someone who enters this statistic, speak, seek help, look for a circle of support, you can overcome it, but you can not alone. Sexual assault, in any of its forms, most of the cases comes from a person close to your family, or within your family circle. I know it's difficult, but there is a way out.
You are loved, you are valuable, you have a purpose in this life and believe me that it is not being a captive of abuse. You are more than a winner. You are beautiful.
What you keep secret is tied to a silent prison, but by confessing it you become free.
The problem in addition to rescuing people is their restoration, as you tell someone who is loved when in their day to day for years they were told that they are just an object and less than garbage.
There are several movements in Mexico such as A21 and commission united vs. try to mention some, that are being given to the task of raising awareness among the population through different campaigns, conferences and events. They also have safe houses to support the rescued girls in their emotional, spiritual and physical restoration. They have alliances with government agencies and police.
The reality is that you and I can help in such simple ways as informing ourselves, sharing information and getting involved locally, not only is it a social problem it is also economic and affects us all.
Together we can eradicate slavery once and for all.
