I have talked to young people that have been subjected to totalitarian surveillance, tracking, and data harvesting all their lives. They have no expectation of privacy while participating on social media platforms, economic activity, or even just talking to each other in the presence of phones. They have completely given up, and just hope they aren't victimized by malicious parties someday, which they don't have any confidence in either.
The problem IMHO isn't so much that surveillance data is collected, it's that we don't collect data on the parties most likely to be malicious, which the Epstein files reveals are those with the most political and economic power. The best solution to our present exigency I can think of is to put such people under a microscope and publish every detail of their skulduggery and shenanigans. What we need are OSINT and open sharing to the public of the deeds of the knaves and rapscallions doing us dirty.
