Just realised that I haven't shared a post this week. So I am just going to share some of the things I have been up to, which have been centered around my car.
So let's start from Sunday. I decided to move my car from Lagos to Ibadan. This wasn't the smartest move on my part because my documents weren't ready but I needed to leave Lagos asap.
I got someone to drive me down to Ibadan for about $20 (I am still a learner, so I cannot drive on the highway). The journey started around 5:30 a.m just so we could evade the police officials but that did not go well for me.
On getting to ijebu ode we got stopped by some policemen who asked for the vehicle documents. I presented what I was given by the previous owner and explained I had just purchased the vehicle but that did not matter much to them.
We spent the next 30 minutes pleading with the police officials who requested $200 to let us go. There was certainly no way in the world I was going to give them that amount--I did not even have that on me.
We ended up settling for $10. Well, the bad news is that I had to pay that same amount at 4 other checkpoints we got pulled over. At some point I just wanted to abandon the vehicle but I had my sister and niece with me, so I could not afford to leave.
Well, we finally made it to Ibadan. That evening my flatmate asked me to drive him to the grocery store which I did. Unfortunately I punctured one of my front tires. I had to replace it the following day. This vehicle was already eating deep into my Christmas funds.
The following day, I decided to drive a longer distance. It all went well and I was proud of myself. I had driven smoothly for over an hour and that was a big plus for me.
Getting into my house late that night I scratched the side of my vehicle. So I would have to do some body work sometime in January. My only solace now is that this will be a rental car soon, as I don't mind all the expenses.
The day after the car incident I fell sick--still sick. And I have been stuck in bed throughout that time which explains why I have been inactive for over 4 days. I haven't been able to do anything productive.
So this is just a brief summary of how my week has been so far. I probably won't be able to meet some of my deadlines for the month. At this point, I just want to relax and enjoy the rest of the year with my family. Cheers!
Police is your friend
Damn. No wonder we couldn't have the meeting on Sunday. You've been busy. Car wahala no dey ever end but for your sake, I hope it does and you get a break. Most times when you buy the car for work, it's just going to need a lot of maintenance as often as possible.
Get well soon, it's been happening to the best of us lately. The past few days have been hellish on my part too but we keep moving...
oops! i missed that. My apologies.
It has really taken a lot from me. learning all I can about car maintenance so I don't have to pay so much for repairs.
Sorry about that. christmas is tomorrow. after that we can all rest
It is very frustrating driving in Nigeria, thankfully you got to your destination safe but wait from 200$ to 10$, how abeg.
Also, I hope you get well soon, it wouldn't be nice being sick during Christmas.
they start by asking for outrageous sums...after minutes of begging and negotiating they accept what you have.
Thank you very much. feeling a lot better now
Well, they are awful negotiators 😆 but at least it was good for you.
Thank God you are better, have a Merry Christmas.
from $200 to $10 that is so much reduction. Take a good rest friend, it is better to get healthy first and then continue to be active on the platform. I think you are just a bit exhausted, so that you can get sick.
get well soon
yeah, i think the stress of this week took a toll on me. Feeling better now but I am not overdoing anything.
Thank you.
