From the NY Times: Beyond the Bitcoin Bubble

This long form piece from the New York Times looks at the beginnings of the internet and how open protocols - TCP/IP, smtp and more - made possible the explosive growth of the internet and how we came to have a few companies that concentrate money, power, and our attention in a narrow range of places online.

It then describes how blockchain, lead by cryptocurrencies will upend the dominance of Facebook, Apple, Google, Microsoft through decentralization and sharing the profits that accrue from online activity.

Anybody here ever hear of such a silly thing? Imagine getting paid for being on social media! What’s that author smoking?

So yes - clearly we all are leaders in this movement as evidenced by our participating in Steem. But I think you’ll appreciate how well the author and the NY Times have put today’s happenings, both ridiculous and sublimely inspiring, in the larger context of how protocols shape our lives.
