Couldn't agree more regarding discipline in the classroom, sadly it will never return. Just as important is recess, especially for boys. The video i've linked below ''No Rules School'' tells it better than i ever could and worth a look.
Swanson Primary School in Auckland, New Zealand, the principal allows the students to test their physical boundaries without fear of being reprimanded.
That's a WOW from me. I would have loved to have taught in such a school especially under a headmaster like that.
My best remark was when a boy said "I used to hate school and now I love it."
