O que é a diversidade no âmbito social ou do trabalho? É a convivência de indivíduos diferentes relativamente à etnia, orientação sexual, cultura ou género, num mesmo espaço.
Eu sou a favor da diversidade no trabalho, por exemplo. Não sou é a favor da diversidade forçada. E é isso que se está a ver, principalmente nos E.U.A., U.K. e noutros países. Qualquer dia, aqui em Portugal também. Falo do facto de se ter uma equipa diversa, só porque tem de ser assim e para não ser mal visto pela sociedade. Isso é estúpido. Imagina esta situação:
Idealizaste uma história para um filme de cinema, mas precisas de argumentistas que escrevam a história tal como a idealizaste. Precisas de 10 argumentistas.
Colocas um anúncio a pedir pessoal para fazer um teste, para escolheres as melhores pessoas para o trabalho. Concorrem 100 pessoas de todo o tipo de raças, feitos, géneros, orientações sexuais, etc. Uma verdadeira diversidade.
Depois dos testes e da avaliação, vês que há 10 pessoas que tiveram nota máxima. São realmente aquilo que tu queres. 60 pessoas tiveram nota média, ou seja, não são más, mas não são bem aquilo que pretendes e, talvez, com alguma formação cheguem lá... ou não. E 30 pessoas tiveram nota negativa, ou seja, não são nada do que procuras.
Neste caso, seria simples. Contactarias os 10 que tiveram nota máxima e terias a tua equipa de sonho. Só que não.
Vamos supor que o grupo que teve nota máxima é composto só por homens brancos heterossexuais. (Atenção, não estou aqui a dizer que só homens brancos heterossexuais é que podem ter nota máxima. Isto é só um exemplo. Não venham já com choraminguices e birras que não interessam a ninguém). Portanto, o grupo que teve nota máxima é composto só por homens brancos heterossexuais. Não podes ter essa equipa. Vais ser acusado de não apelar à diversidade e ter uma equipa machista e supremacista. Então vais ter que remover alguns e substituir por outros do grupo de nota média, que tem mulheres brancas, mulheres negras ou de outra raça e até alguns homossexuais, transexuais ou de outros géneros. Assim já fica ok, não é? Não. Então e a pessoa que tem deficiência física que também concorreu? Está na equipa da nota negativa. Tens de ir lá buscar também.
Ou seja, em vez de teres uma equipa composta por 10 pessoas com nota máxima, vais ter de ter uma equipa com 6 pessoas com nota máxima, 3 com nota média e 1 com nota negativa. Não é nada a tua equipa ideal, mas teve de ser para apelar à diversidade.
Isto aconteceu com o Seinfeld quando estreou a sua série de internet "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee". A primeira temporada teve 10 episódios onde, em cada episódio, ele conversava com um dos seus melhores amigos. E não é que o criticaram, por só convidar homens brancos? São os amigos mais chegados, caraças!!! O que tem? Por isso, o que ele teve de fazer na temporada seguinte? Convidar uma mulher e um negro. Ele ia convidá-los à mesma, mas teve de o fazer já, forçadamente, para não receber mais críticas. Ridículo.
Eu e a minha família lá de casa temos todos o mesmo tom de pele. Qualquer dia vão dizer que a minha família não apela à diversidade. Que mundo mais parvo este.

I'm in favor of diversity at work, for example. I'm not in favor of forced diversity. And that's what we're seeing, especially in the U.S.A., U.K., and other countries. Any day, here in Portugal, too. I'm talking about the fact of having a diverse team, just because it has to be that way and not be frowned upon by society. This is stupid. Imagine this situation:
You created a story for a movie, but you need screenwriters to write the story as you imagined it. You need 10 screenwriters.
You place an ad asking for people to take a test, to choose the best people for the job. 100 people of all types of races, genders, sexual orientations, etc., compete. A true diversity.
After the tests and evaluation, you see that there are 10 people who got the maximum score. They are really what you want. 60 people had an average score; that is, they are not bad, but they are not quite what you want, and perhaps, with some training, they will get there... or not. And 30 people had a negative rating, meaning they are nothing like what you are looking for.
In this case, it would be simple. You would contact the 10 who got the top score, and you would have your dream team. But no.
Let's assume that the group that got the highest score is made up only of heterosexual white men. (Attention, I'm not saying that only heterosexual white men can get the top score. This is just an example. Don't start with whining and tantrums that are of no interest to anyone). Therefore, the group that got the highest score is made up only of heterosexual white men. You can't have that team. You will be accused of not appealing to diversity and having a sexist and supremacist team. So you will have to remove some and replace them with others from the average score group, which has white women, black women or women of other races, and even some homosexuals, transsexuals or other genders. That's okay, right? No. So what about the person who has a physical disability and also took the test? He's in the negative score group. You have to have him, too.
In other words, instead of having a team made up of 10 people with a maximum score, you will have to have a team with 6 people with a maximum score, 3 with an average score, and 1 with a negative score. It's not your ideal team at all, but it has to be this way to appeal to diversity.
This happened to Seinfeld when his web series "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee" premiered. The first season had 10 episodes where, in each episode, he talked to one of his best friends. People still criticized him for only inviting white men. But, they are his closest friends, damn it!!! What's the problem? So what did he have to do the following season? Invite a woman and a black man. He was going to invite them anyway, but he had to do it now, forcibly, so as not to receive any more criticism. Ridiculous.
My family and I at home all have the same skin tone. One day, people will say that my family does not encourage diversity. What a stupid world this is!
