About upcoming changes: As an non-native English speaker it takes me a few days to create 1 quality article with translation, using markdown, editing original images. It means no more than 2 posts per week. Will I be able to return my invested 1-2 STEEM with such level of activity?

Please keep in mind that the upvote value changes with the change of Steem price and can drop below 0.01 though.
As for the changes. We understand that some members do not post daily and that is ok. In this case the better option would be delegation: 100SP for Tier 1 and 200SP for Tier 2. That way you do not have to remember about upvotes (only until the end of April) or a renewing the monthly subscription starting in May.
You will stay on the right Tier until you decide to undelegate.
