Not everyone gets the lion's share on Steemit, first you need to make yourself known/heard, learn how to work within the Steemit platform, everything experienced previously has changed, except creating quality content.
This is what I learned about Qurator community, Bots and Delegation.
To bot or not bot, this article got me to thinking Steemit offers many services via many different places for people earning a living online. When I arrived on Steemit I had never seen this format being used, it required learning a lot more.
To add my thoughts to this article by @phelimint, we need cryptocurrencies to circulate, making money is not the ultimate reason for being online, however crypto being paid must have attracted you to being on Steemit.
Supporting additional services means crypto circulation is improved, exactly the same as when one goes for a long walk, it pumps that blood a bit quicker through the veins.
Qurator was the first places to invite me into a community, it then moved from charging a steady couple of SBD per month, later opening into tiers, this article is how it works, what is offered...
Guidelines and Registration Details

Support for new arrivals, yes content must be quality, Admin do check accounts on arrival, on the look out for quality content is something that has been been done since they first started, once again they will advise you if you have done something incorrectly if you are a beginner and new in Steemit.
Qurator pays out daily on posts, there is a bot within the community called Qustodian, anyone can delegate to this bot, Qustodian pays out a daily amount directly into your account not your content. Lately I have been having problems with my Internet connection so I cannot devote time for qurator. I was really thinking of getting there but I have to address my present day pain in the neck

I really admire how this kind of projects are focus on help us plancton and minnows grow on this platform. Right now, for me it's not that hard to get a few upvotes, but it's because I've made myself known/heard just like you mention! But let me tell you, at the beggining it's really difficult.
