Photoquesting for patterns

in #qurator4 years ago

This week's theme for @qurator's Photoquest Challege is Patterns. The photos to choose immediatly came to my mind. Because for me, the best patterns we can find are the ones present in nature! And what better pattern models than the ones we find in wildlife?

It's impossible not to recognize the colours of the male indian peacock! Patterns have purposes in the wild: without their vibrant plummage, the male peacocks probably wouldn't be able to atract the females.

But what about in other creatures? Smaller, less "show off" ones?

Although I can't tell for sure here, since I'm not familiar with the species, colourful patterns are often a sign of venom. They serve as a warning to potential predators that it would probably be better to seek another prey.

In some species, the "show off" effect is exactly what they DON'T want.

The colour pattern in this green forest lizard is a way for him to blend in with the environment, such as it's easy to miss him unless we're lucky, or actively searching.

So many different patterns, so many different functions. The one thing in common? They're all beautiful!

Yes! They are all beautiful the patterns do have a reason either for mating or warning or to blend in to their environment. Beautiful photos yet again, you are talented.

Thank you!

Amazing shots!!! Next to this, my little photo won't stand a chance! 🤭
